Why is Obama going to announce his VP pick in the dead zone of Friday afternoon?
Seriously, Friday afternoon is where bad news goes to die. It's when bad economic news is announced. It's when corrupt administration officials announce they're spending more time with their families. It's when candidates announce they're giving back tainted cash. It's when you announce things in the hopes that it'll all be forgotten by Monday and the start of the next news cycle.

So what am I missing here? Am I wrong to think that it looks like he's trying to minimize the news coverage? Does he think it'll carry the Sunday morning shows and still dominate next week's cycle? Is he hoping the GOP kneejerk "too insider/too inexperienced" response is lost in the weekend fluff? What's the deal, DU?

1. It might be Hillary
and that would give him less time before the convention to have to address angry Obama supporters.

14. I'd say it's the other way around. It's not Hillary and the Obama wants to limit media coverage
asking "Why not Hillary?"

3. they're getting tons of news coverage just on the anticipation, and frankly I think the news will
come today or tomorrow, I'm not believing anything I read anymore about when it's going to happen.

13. That's right...No Dead Zone.
It doesn't matter and Friday actually looks like a great day to announce.

Obama is all about changing the way it's done.

9. They will own the weekend and then the next week.
This will help prevent the repug slime machine from rolling out their lies and having them stick before the convention kicks off. Not a bad tactical move, in my view.

12. Then this Friday would no longer be a dead zone! Also I agree that
the guessing is ramping up coverage. I know I personally am going to be disappointed when the selection is announced.
