Ex-President Carter added to convention program

Former President Jimmy Carter, known in recent years for controversial comments about the Middle East, and yet more potential running mates for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama have been added to the program for next week's Democratic convention.

Carter is scheduled to speak on Monday, Aug. 25th, when he will be joined by Illinois state politicians and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

The potential vice presidential candidates added to Wednesday's list include Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), former Majority Leader Tom Daschle (S.D.) and 2004 Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry (Mass.).

Convention organizers said that names are still being added, "including the program for the final night of the convention and the names of the first-time delegates and everyday Americans who will be central to the convention program."

Of course, the speaker who continues to be the biggest question mark of the week is that of Obama's running mate. The Illinois Democrat is expected to name his pick later this week.
