Do you all notice that the media seems to have dropped the "who do want to have a beer with?" meme?
In 2000 and 2004, we were lectured that it was Oh so important that Americans feel like their president was a "regular guy" who Americans could just sit back and have a beer with. This bizarre criterion was used to absolutely club Al Gore and John Kerry over the head, and marginalize them as out of touch, out to lunch elitists.

Now, all of a sudden, we don't seem to be hearing about this supposedly vital criterion of the presidency. Could it be because Obama wins on this hypothetical question? I suspect that is the case, so the corporate media has to look for other ways to marginalize him.

1. Or it could be that our country is in such bad shape...
That if the media tried to boil the election down to this, their "consumers" would be livid.

3. Yeah, but the fact that our guy eats arugula (and, worse yet, THINKS
about stuff rather than just reacting with his gut) seems to be a big knock against him. They're not phrasing it the same way, but the same assumption is still there (dumb = reg'lar folks = good; smart = elitist = bad).

4. Well, the guy I'd really enjoy doing some drinking with is Joe Biden.
I spent about an hour talking to him last year, one on one. He's as full of shit as a Texas outhouse, but, a really friendly, likable guy.

8. Rec. Good job pointing out the sheer idiocy combined with the blatant favoritism that constitute
the American media these days.

11. Yep. The anti-celebrity tactic has a fatal flaw: wouldn't YOU rather have a beer with Paris Hilton?

Seriously, who would you rather have a beer with?

Paris Hilton? or John McCain?

I think you're on to something. Dropping the "beer with" meme is NOT coincidence.
