Al Gore for VP
I think that former Vice President Al Gore should be very seriously considered by Senator Obama and his campaign. Al Gore is an intellectual giant, a powerhouse with decades upon decades of experience, bona fide economic (Nafta debate against Perot, strongest economy of the 20th century) experience and accomplishments, bona fida foreign policy experience (was at the table for all major WJC decisions) and he brings a following and a passion to the ticket, those concerned about global warming. He's an awesome debater, he's been vetted, he knows the mistakes not to make in a presidential race and Senator Obama apparently wants someone he can unequivocally trust. Al Gore is probably of one of the most honest politicians we've had in 25 years. Have a 1 term committment from Gore if you must or if Al would like to go back to enjoying some of the down time that he has so earned. However, I'm sure that he would be willing to step up to help ensure that we get Barack into the White House. He'd unite the Democratic base in a heartbeat as well.

Gore and Hillary would shatter the battle lines of this race. Gore is the safer of the two but also retains the power to break the race wide open. I can't think of anyone better, more qualified or likely to be more loyal.

1. the decision, whatever it is, is made.
Besides, if Al Gore wanted to be back in the White House, he'd have run for President.

10. VP is a conveniently short route to the White House
Don't have to start running in 2006. It's kind of an attractive option except for the "vice" part of your title. Like the year Michael Jordan basically came back from retirement in time for the playoffs (although that didn't work out so well).

2. The reflexive response is that Gore is done with
politics and can bring his environment message to more people if he's not holding high office.

On the other hand, he's everything you say he is.

Asked to serve for the greater good, after 8 years of desolation of the spirit of our democracy, and knowing that Gore is a bedrock decent soul, I could see it.

3. Nope, Gore's has a global calling that goes far beyond any administration.
He will certainly work to help Obama to be elected, but I never see him holding elective office again or even being part of an Obama administration. He will not be bound and limited by politics.

9. Except Perot was right in that debate - NAFTA has been a disaster
In fact, Perot nailed several things back in 1992 concerning the economy. Clinton-Gore talked populist and legislated economically as Republican-lite.
