Who would be the most stunning and electrifying choice for Veep?
Who would give him the most bounce and drown out the GOP the following week altogether?

Who would give McCain fits by trumping the National Security question. And completely trump McCain LIeberman. WHo would take away all the GOP Buzz the following week? If it is none of the four candidates then I have a radical thought that no one thinks would ever occur and no one would ever see coming

Colin Powell.

It would be th gutsiest political choice ever. Yes he is African American....But no one would say he is not experienced enough or is not patriotic enough or lacked the gravitas, ANd He is a quote unquote "Moderate Republican"

They would be talking about it for weeks.

She's over 35 and a natural born citizen...those are the only qualifications. I know some would, like you, want her to have been involved in some sort of public office but the fact that she isn't a politician could actually be her biggest asset (talk about change).

Paul Abrams
Huffington Post

'Despite his imprisonment in North Vietnam, there is reason to believe that McCain's entire military record will not look very good compared to Wes Clark's. Included in such documents will be the planes McCain crashed, his overall behavior and demeanor, comments upon his leadership potential by commanding officers, his temper and other events we can only surmise.

The Republican 527s will, as they did with John Kerry, feel compelled to bring down Wes Clark. After all, he was shot in 4 places while he continued to lead his troops out of harm's way and defeat the attacking Viet Cong contingent for which he was awarded a Silver Star. Clark rose in the ranks to become a 4-star General and, as Supreme Allied Commander Europe, conducted the entire Kosovo war without a single US casualty.

Democratic groups will have no choice but to insist that the sun shine on McCain's record as well.

As McCain's military record is shown not to match up to Clark's, his only appeal for the presidency will fade into the shadows.'

I'm still angry with him for the U.N. speech. My blood and bones tell me he knew that claim of "mobile weapons labs" was complete bullshit and he trotted himself out there and gave that speech anyway.

IMO that alone is a singularly and fiercely disqualfying point against his ever serving on a Democratic ticket.

That recent spate of LOOK AT FEINGOLD LOVING McCAIN crap was probably part of the Republican campaign to continue demoralizing Democrats. When it was just sweeping together positive comments Russ has made about Johnny during their decades in the senate.

Caroline Kennedy would be even more stunning...but that's more of an out-there thought. I'd love it if it happened, though. Who could command more positive attention than the daughter of JFK on the ticket, to carry the Kennedy mantle for her ailing uncle? That'd be big.

I resent the implication that Clinton supporters believe that only woman in the entire country is qualified to be a national ticket is Hillary Clinton. Yes, Senator Clinton would be a great candidate. She was my first choice. Yes, I would love to seer her be chosen. But that in no way means I believe all other women are off the table. How short sighted is it to say no other woman can be selected because Clinton is a good choice herself!

81. Sibelius is a policy wonk. I like that! Her flagship issue is Education, for which she has lead a
successful financial struggle against a bunch of regressive red-staters.

Sibelius has also taken a very principled stand in favor of clean energy, by backing a decision against new coal-powered electrical plants in Kansas.

She has been proactively supportive of bringing moderates into state house and senate races.

Although she doesn't go around on a bandwagon for Women's Right to Choose Reproductive Services, she has been taking public humiliation from the Archdiocese, with the bishop saying things about who can and can't go to Communion.

65. Bill Moyers.... Telling it like it is every single day for 4 years! WOW!
Actually he has great ideas and would mesh with Obama and his campaign for change you can believe in.

74. Joe Biden
The people whose reactions matter for the middle voters. Unlike the denizens of DU, they don't even know who most of the VP possibilities are. They will evaluate the VP pick on the most superficial of bases. How the person looks, how the person handles himself will most determine how they respond to the VP pick. Biden will be stunning and electrifying to those voters, because he's good at being an attack dog, and he's by far the best speaker of the VP choices on our side.

Colin Powell? No. Terrible choice. Two black men? Not a snow ball's chance in hell that happens.

Colin Powell? The former Bush I and Bush II operative who never had the backbone to stand up to either of them? No way.

Probably the worst possible choice Obama could make would be Colin Powell.

84. Are you out of your mind?
Did you forget February of 2003 at the U.N.? Colin Powell lied to the world, knowingly lied with evidence that he did not believe in, to start a war of choice. He swims in the blood of the victims of this war. He is the most unObama person imaginable. Obama might as well sell his soul on Ebay after that.

97. Yes, they are out of their fucking gourd.
To see anyone on DU ever advocating Colin Powell for anything but federal penitentiary librarian is downright insult to this community and what it has been trying to do the past 7 years.

At some point, I would hope to the gods the Admins would just say enough to those who advocate fucking war criminals to our party's ticket.
