What if McSame picks Condi?
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080225/howl2

John McCain is a formidable candidate in his own right, but if he has the political imagination to do it, he can cause the party of Jefferson and Jackson indescribable angst with Rice as his vice-presidential pick.

Besides being the greatest two-for in GOP history, Rice brings other huge pluses to the decorated Vietnam hero. Indeed, she may be enough to elect the venerable hero/naval aviator.

McCain's troubles with the religious wing of his party could well evaporate with the churchgoing Rice at his side. She solidifies that part of his base overnight.

16. Especially one who's old and senile and old.
On the plus side, it would keep her the hell away from that NFL commissioner gig she covets.

within the four years are relatively high.

They may not like to admit it, but racists are a core part of their base.

15. Yes but a black woman in a secondary role is less threatening to racists than a black man...
in the primary role. It would give an out for racist voters and bring out some really ugly attacks against Obama in my opinion. People will feel much more secure in their racism if they can say "hey, I'm not racist or sexist. Look, I'm voting for McCain/Rice."

18. I suppose that may be true unfortunately.
And they may feel that a black woman being subordinate to the white manin charge is just where she belongs. Crazy racist (and sexist) bastards!

14. It would be a good pick for him.
She would cancel out the historical aspects of the Obama and Clinton campaigns. Racists would probably be more accepting of a black woman in the #2 position than they would be of a black man in the #1 position. Backwards thinking "family values" types might appreciate the fact that she's a powerful working woman who's not trying to raise a family at the same time. The McCain campaign could intensify their race baiting attacks against Obama while hiding behind Rice. She would effectively inoculate them against any accusations of racism or sexism. Plus anyone who knows what a colossally inept failure she is won't be voting Republican anyway. It's not exactly like the media is going to call her out on her failures or anyone is going to blame her for 9/11.

21. Unfortunately, it can't be ruled out because the modern-day GOP
has staked out the Pick-a-Lousy-Veep game like nobody's business.

And Condoleezza Rice would be as lousy as they get.

Nixon. Dole. Poppy. Cheney. It's a long list of notably bad public servants.

So in keeping with the tradition, I suppose Rice is a contender.

26. I think McCain wants to be able to claim some "history" of his own.
And I don't think it's going to be Condi. I think he might pick a woman to be able to compete with Obama's storyline.

27. Obama (as somebody suggested) needs to "marry" McSame with Bush
There isn't any other better way to do that than for McSame to choose a thoroughly incompetent cabinet official from the Bush (mis-)administration as VP who embodies everything that has been WRONG about the last 8 years of our national political system. It wouldn't get any easier for Obama to irrevocably "marry" McSame with Bush than if were McSame were to nominate Condi for VP IMHO. That would practically be a gift from the "political gods"! I don't think it will happen, however if it does, I would not have been able to anticipate it.;-)

28. She would be such a phenomenally bad campaigner
as to make McCain himself look good.

She has absolutely no experience out on the hustings. She would be hilariously bad in the VP debate, no matter who Obama picks. She would incite all the fundamentalists who could not abide the notion of a woman in a man's world, let alone someone of her color (I had to control myself not to use language that would have been offensively racist, but what they would say). In public speaking she is wooden beyond belief, and her voice always has that catch in it that to me indicates someone is lying. Always.

So on the surface it may look good, but in reality it's one of the choices that would absolutely doom him.
