Obama needs to stop "Staying Above It"
Ok, WTF is going on here. I'm sorry, I am a STAUNCH Obama supporter, but he is starting to fizzle out just like Kerry and Gore with his attempts at "staying above it". Let's fucking face facts, most American's are too dumb to get subtlety. They need simpleone sentence answers and catchphrases.

Major problems:

- Obama is doing what he said he would NOT do. Bringing a knife to a gun fight.

- The poll numbers are close. Guess who wins when it's "close"?

- Obama needs to lay off the lofty speeches. Yes, we know he is eloquent and inspirational, but he is starting to over play that card. It is starting to appear that he can't carry himself as well in 'high stakes' situations where he has to think on his feet. We all know this is not true, and that he is much sharper than McCain but he needs to do SOMETHING to begin defeating this perception.

Mc Cain has this SOB Tucker Bounds who is out there with some snarky one-liner to belittle Obama at any turn all over the media. Obama has his web page to answer the charges. Sorry, that won't work. Sure, people that are already leaning Obama will take the time to 'fact check' but your average lazy voter is just going to remember the sound bite and not want to read a 3 paragraph 'rebuttal' against the sound bite.

It's time to start mud wrestling.

1. He'll be fine.
It's an interestingly fine line. Too much, and people get sick of the mudslinging. Too little, we lose. I trust Obama's judgment.

2. He's being smart.. why throw your big guns...
.. before you need to. Remember most of the country are fans of "short attention span theater". What's said now will be forgotten by November. Watch the floodgates open about mid-September from every direction.

14. I think you are wrong, the Republicans defined
Kerry as a flip-flopper early and it stuck throughout the campaign. The Swift-boaters were the knock-out punch. They finished Drakakis off with that tank ad, I think he was ahead like 17 points after the convention. Al Gore was defined as a liar early and often. Before you start the whining how they cheated in the case of a Al Gore and Kerry, they should have both won in a landslide especially Kerry. I haven't had the time to watch Obama and McCain at Saddleback, but from what I gather you all must think Obama lost, since everyone is whining about McCain cheating. I don't know if he did or not, I think it was stupid accept that forum in the first place. Of all the religious diversity in this country that gave the right wing fundies legitimacy they don't deserve.

5. I agree completely. Especially on the speeches part.
He needs to get down and dirty. Less soaring rhetoric. The stupids don't like big words and eloquence.

6. Just like in 2004, the candidate cannot do it alone. All Dems need to learn their lines and work it.

7. "He'll be fine"
Anybody rolling their eyes at my concern or dismissing it as "just wait until he opens the guns"

Take a look at the DU archives in 2000 and 2004 and see the EXACT same proclamations.

Now, what to do about it? Well, be vocal about the frustration. E-mail his campaign, post on his site, do everything you can to effect the proper change in his campaign strategy.

8. don't worry!
hasn't he proved he has the jam by winning over the Clintons and the media?

if it's more action that you're after, you'll just have to stay tuned, it'll come soon enough. but don't expect dirty tricks and deeds of the calibre of the Clintons or McCain. he can slay that dragon wthout gettin any dirt on him at all, just by the simple Truth.

10. May I ask WHY you believe the rest of the Dem party has NO DUTY to back up the nominee on fights
Did you EVER hear George Bush lead an attack? Nope - he had a MACHINE and every GOP lawmaker doing it for him.

Why don't you ask why our Dem machine isn't doing enough and why only thhe same few dependable lawmakers stick their necks out time and time again for Obama and other Dems under attack?

He's gonna hit McCain so hard that McCain won't know what hit him.

13. Things get "more presidential" then.
The GOP knows how to define early, then grab the "swingers" in the fall.
