Gay voters support McCain less than they did Bush
Overwhelmingly supporting Senator Obama over Senator McCain in the presidential election according to results of a Harris Interactive poll released this morning, it is also predicted that McCain will garner less of the LGBT vote than President Bush did in 2000 and 2004.

68 percent of those polled between August 1 and 7 prefer Obama. 10 percent favor McCain, while three percent prefer the Green Party's Ralph Nader and one percent back Libertarian candidate and Georgia Congressman Bob Barr. Three percent chose "Other," while 15 percent remain undecided.

In the 2000 and 2004 elections, Bush got 23 percent of the vote among gays, lesbians and bisexuals. In contrast, President Clinton had 66 percent of the gay vote in 1996.

I'm just curious as to why a gay person would vote for Bush or McCain.

2. I agree with your comment at the end. Why WOULD any gay support Bush or McCain?
That's like a Jew supporting Nazis. It makes zero sense.

4. How the hell did the shrub garner 23% among GLBT voters?
That is unfathomable to me.

I wouldn't think he got 23 VOTES much less 23 PERCENT!

5. "I'm just curious as to why a gay person would vote for Bush or McCain."
Maybe they're voting their conscious or maybe they're fiscally conservative. Either way, that's their personal choice.

6. maybe
those in the GLBT community cannot get over BHO allowing the "Rev" Donnie McClurkin to be a spokesperson for him at a fundraising event.

Or maybe they are still searching for any candidate who supports equal rights - INCLUDING the right ot marry.

All sorts of reasons not to support either one of the major party candidates

Peace

10. If someone is hung up on the McClurkin thing
Are they gonna vote for a hateful old bastard who claims his Vietnamese torturers were "homosexuals"?

How long before McCain says "I hate the faggots. I'll hate them as long as I live".

9. Well, there is such a thing as the "Log Cabin Republicans"
Though I'll be damned if I understand why. I've heard that they are mostly rich gays who think their tax cuts are more important than civil rights. But no Log Cabiners have ever admitted to this in public, as far as I know.

I guess it's about as crazy as African American conservatives voting for Strom Thurmond or Jesse Helms. As ridiculous as it sounds, they did exist.

11. History will teach you why...
Note the Log Cabin Club existed when there was no similar group on the Democratic side...the DNC did not allow it. So, for older folks, Log Cabin was the only political home available. I know people who were not political until the 80's forced them to be, and the reason they say they were not involved is that they are liberal and the DNC would not have them...
And while you mock the issue, McClurkin is a perfect example of why many feel no loyalty to the DNC. He was allowed to lash out at us at official DNC events. That is not exactly a heart warming welcome, you know. And the sort of suport our national candidates give is only a tad better than GOP stances, and it is given with lots of strings attached, and it is kept at arm's length while they court the religious bigots openly. I was born a Democrat, and indentified as one prior to coming out as a gay person. Not so for all. And it should not suprise that half baked rhetoric about dogma does not exactly inspire people to make the switch. They were born Republicans, and while they might support a Demcorat who actually supported gay rights without stammering, they will not betray their roots for some candidate who is only marginally in their corner on that issue, and opposes them on everything else.
