His slyly crafted answer that his marriage failed was a barefaced lie. His union did not fail of itself. His wife did not cause the failure. St. John doomed his marriage by breaking his vows, chasing the younger woman and deserting a wife who waited patiently for his return only to be discarded by this juvenile cad.
