What does Candidate McCain mean by "A Cause Greater Than Self"?
Reaganomics, et al, was surely about self?

I can think of 15 different ways that phrase can be interpreted, but as with all politics, it's all about glib catchphrases that seem hollow because of the ability to interpret them so loosely. (Or in the case of modern day voters, "interpret them so losely" because nobody knows the difference between "loose" and "lose" anymore... )

2. It usually means doing things for the good of others without thinking
of yourself or what advantage it would be for YOU! Unfortunately, in McNut's case, I believe it was simply pandering to that christian audience.

6. For the Reich, mein Fuhrer. Or he might have meant God. Who knows.
He is a crazy old coot and was pandering to a religious audience who reject rational thought and let God take the reins.

13. Sort of like...
.....all the "hope" and "change" business, right? Just glib catch phrases.

I can think of 15 different ways that phrase can be interpreted, but as with all politics, it's all about glib catchphrases that seem hollow because of the ability to interpret them so loosely.
