2. This was a crappy idea, however, Obama is doing well.
Surprisingly. Christ, he's getting hit with all the fucking wedge issues the right has concocted.

5. I think he is doing great
I do disagree with the gay marriage thing...a civil right is a civil right is a civil right...but I can accept that I will not agree with him on everything as long as we are headed in the same general direction.

8. Think about it, though: What does he have to lose?
If one works under the assumption that fundies (and actually, I don't consider Rick Warren a fundie in the same category as a James Dobson or D James Kennedy)believe the following:

a) think Barack is a Muslim
b) think Barack supports "the murder of the innocent" and "the homosexual agenda"
c) think that Democrats, generally, are secular humanists who never set foot in a church

Then one concludes that Obama can go nowhere but up by appearing in front of a Christian audience and answering tough wedge issue questions.

...of course, McSame will be asked if he respects the flag and likes puppies ;-)

29. That's all the fucking press reports on, too - the wedge issues.
IF McCain goes up in the polls do you think the press will turn on him??

4. That is Political Suicide. Sorry..... I agree with you but the CIvil Unions First approach seems to
be the only way to win this.

6. Yup. With you there.
Separate but equal has already been proven to be unequal.

Why we need to learn this lesson over and over again is beyond me...

:hide:

It worked so well in 2000.

13. Same here...
he thinks that GLBT persons should have all of the same rights, but he only supports civil unions, which do not confer those rights upon aforementioned persons. Loud and clear.

Ugh.

18. I didn't even hear him say "all" of the same rights
I heard him say that he would "allow" me to visit my partner in the hospital.

21. Well, he did say once that we should have "a basic set of rights."
That's probably best--if we get something too nice we'll just leave it out in the rain or something.

12. Seperate but equal is a big step on the way to "just plain equal."
Gotta keep in mind that a majority of this country DOES NOT support gay marriage.

Give 'em 5 or 6 years of civil unions and they'll see that the world hasn't gone to hell. Then they'll be ready for real equality.

14. on what planet
seperate but equal lasted for nearly 60 years and it sure wasn't a step toward equality. The era before Plessy was reconstruction which was when African Americans were deeply involved in Southern life.

Maybe I should be more realistic about the political process.

But dammit, it still pisses me off when he goes into full "separate but equal" status for us. As he did tonight.
