Another lie unravels . . .

O'Neill and his cronies have claimed that Kerry lied about being sent into Cambodia and that he would have been "seriously disciplined or court-martialed" if he had actually crossed the border.

So answer me this . . . When O'Neill so smugly bragged to President Nixon that he had gone into Cambodia in his Swift Boat - why didn't Nixon seem the least bit surprised or concerned? If Kerry's incursion into Cambodia would have been such a horror, couldn't one expect Nixon to say something like, "Oh my GOD, man! You went into CAMBODIA?!?! That was completely against my orders and my wishes!!! You are the ONLY Swift Boat that crossed the border. No other Swift Boat in Vietnam - especially Lt. Kerry's, no matter WHAT he says - went into Cambodia. I hereby order you to be seriously disciplined or court-martialed!!!"

Anent Cambodia, I remember a story from Randy Shilts' book "Conduct Unbecoming" about gays in the military. One of the men he interviewed was on a boat that went with a flotilla into Cambodia. The man was taking a shower on deck, soaped up from head to toe. As the flotilla formed up, his boat was at the rear, and the captain realized as did the man in the shower, that they would be the last Americans out of Cambodia.

The captained sauntered back to be the "last man" out of Cambodia, but didn't count on the guy in the shower. He slipped back as far in the shower as he could, and stuck his leg out off the back of the boat. Our military's last man out of Cambodia was a soapy fairy, hanging off the back of a little packet boat. Makes me grin just remembering Shilts' wonderful prose.
