Since Obama and McCain are speaking at Saddleback Church, in today's bit of election history, we should note past Republican efforts to try to paint Democrats as hostile to religion in an effort to rally support among Christians. Thus, I think it is a good idea for Obama to take th initiative. Sure, he is speaking in a Red area of California before an audience that has typically been hostile to Democrats. However, this is consistent with Obama's message in his books and his own background in organizing through the use of community churches. Finally, if the RNC pulls a similar stunt to what the did below, I am sure we will be ready to hit back with an ad featuring McCain bashing on Evangelicals.

CBS/AP) Campaign literature mailed by the Republican National Committee warns voters in two states that the Bible will be prohibited and men will marry men if "liberals" win in November.
The New York Times reported that the mass mailing was sent to voters in Arkansas and West Virginia, and was part of a GOP effort to mobilize religious voters.
The literature shows a Bible with the word "BANNED" across it and a photo of a man, on his knees, placing a ring on the hand of another man with the word "ALLOWED." The mailing tells West Virginians to "vote Republican to protect our families" and defeat the "liberal agenda."
The Times said RNC spokeswoman Christine Iverson had confirmed that the GOP had sent out the mailings.
