Is it time for an 80's "Cold War" movie night?
The Cold War is back! So here are some 80's Cold War movie classics I saw when I was a kid!

This can help put us back into the fighting mood.

At the rate things are going, I may have a "Cold War movie night" real soon!

WarGames anyone?

1. How about Fail Safe or Dr Strangelove:How I learned to stop worrying about and love the bomb (?)
Do like War Games, and how there is no way to win a global war.

27. A deluxe version of "Strangelove" was on sale today at Best Buy.
I snapped it up and plan to watch it this weekend.

Do you suppose that drinking vino while watching would pollute my precious bodily fluids?

Do you remember all the parental warnings before "The Day After" was aired? To this day it is one of the most watched TV movies of all-time

13. I sure do.
I watched it when it premiered. I particularly remember the scenes when the missles detonate and you watched people being vaporized. Pretty scary stuff for television.

12. No Way Out (1987)
Tom Farrell (Kevin Costner) is a navy officer who gets posted at the Pentagon and is to report to the secretary of defence David Brice (Gene Hackman). He starts an affair with Susan Atwell(Sean Young) not knowing that she is Brice's mistress. When Susan is found dead, Tom is assigned to the case of finding the killer who is believed to be a KGB mole! Tom could soon become a suspect when a polaroid negative of him was found at Susan's place. He now has only a few hours to find the killer before the computer regenerates the photo

17. Red Dawn should be a bit of a problem with the Repukes these days ...
a foreign-speaking force invades a country ... and a bunch of "terrorists" keep hounding the occupying force ...

Which should the Repukes root for now?

18. amazon list someone compiled.
go figure!

I think of all of these the only one I've seen and enjoyed was the Ostermann Weekend, which is fabulous for its retro "high-tech". Kind of like Futureworld.

21. Thanks...

That's a great list. Invasion USA was a fantastic movie. I fell in love with the MAC-10 machine gun after watching all of those Chuck Norris flicks. I thought the gun looked real cool with the silencer on it.

I can't believe I forgot about Top Gun. That is an all-time great "cold war" movie.

24. Hi!
I was a girly teenage girl when some of these originally came out, so the "sausage fest" aspects of the military ones seemed a little over the top for me. My brother LOVED THEM...and I can hear you on the lego thing you mentioned up above.

It's funny watching these now and remembering how intensely the "bad russkie" stereotype had play in our generation (I'm assuming your a fellow x-er or something near).

20. Shall we play a game?
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 06:54 PM by backscatter712
For all the Wargames fans, would you like to play a rousing game of Global Thermonuclear War?

DEFCON: Everybody Dies

The only way to win is not to play. It's surprisingly addictive!

Afterwards, how about a nice game of chess?

One of the best movies ever, if you can buy the premise.
