Well hell, game over. I guess I'll be voting for McCain now. I mean if Glenn Beck says it's true it must be true. I, of course, could look at Obama's record and his policy proposals, but I'm pretty sure Glenn Beck already did that and concluded Obama was a Communist.

9. You know. When anyone says communist to me anymore I

smile and inform them of what the word means. I tell them that they have been brainwashed by cold war propaganda and that in totalitarian states like Russia and China, who adopted a communist economy, it's the political system that they should object to. I also tell them that capitalism flourished under the Nazis and fascists in Italy and is now flourishing in China all major human rights violators. No matter where they take this conversation, they just can't conflate the two systems into one. Most people who have ever had this conversation with me never bring it up again because they know they can't win. It's time to start owning the words communism and socialism and making people see that they are economic systems not political systems. For instance a totalitarian dictatorships like Saudi Arabia and the other Arab states ruled by kings for instance, do practice capitalism and not communism or socialism, yet they are no better than the Soviet Union was or China is today.

That being said, I'm not in favor of pure communism. In my mind it leads to the same political abuses that unfettered capitalism leads to. It's just that both systems can flourish under political systems that are as opposite as democracy and totalitarianism depending on where the leadership takes their nations. I favor regulated capitalism under a social democracy like our friends the Scandanavians have developed. I think this is where the Democrats and Obama want to take us eventually as a country. It's the kind of "communism" I could be comfortable with.
