I know a politician's personal life is his or her personal business, but
apparently my FIL was convinced that a tabloid had accused Obama of having a love child. ( I think he had Obama mixed up with Edwards) My husband straightened him out on that, and mentioned that McCain had been horsing around with Cindy while still married to his first wife. "Cindy is his 2nd wife? I didn't know that!"

Time to fight lies with facts, I say. McCain won't mind. He thinks people should have a sense of humor about these things!

1. No, it's not personal if they're a public official who is making themselves vulnerable to blackmail.
I'm sorry to read of this example of lumping all candidates in together.

2. No, there is a rumor around that Obama has a love child.
More smear given chances by bloggers and anyone wanting to take down Obama in any way. One minute he's gay, next he's having a secret love child and they are screaming this from the rooftops too.

The amount of smears is out of control. They're trying to tie Obama as in the same elk as Edwards and he's doing cover ups of his own. It's lies and retardation.

3. Hit him with the "he was still married to Carol when he got his marriage license to Cindy".
That should floor him.

7. Also hit him with adultery is a violation of the UCMJ
In other words, a federal crime. He was still in the Navy when he put the moves on La Cindy.

4. Well, a tabloid DID accuse him of having a love child--the Daily Globe(?)
--but it was a total joke. The story was about how they were looking as hard as they could for evidence of this, become the Republicans were doing the same. No photos, no names, no places, no leads, no proof at all--it was just kind of "We bet he has a love child...how could he not?"

So they're just trying to catch up with the Inquirer, I guess.

5. I told my husband that it's silly to think of Obama stepping out on Michelle.
Forget dealing with Michelle, anyone who hurts her will have to deal with her big brother!

6. The Daily Globe sounds like a legitimate (?) tabloid, but it happens to be

the competition for the Daily Bugle and its biggest scoop was the revelation that Matt Murdock is Dare Devil!

On edit - I think you mean the just plain Globe:

8. "Cindy is his 2nd wife? I didn't know that!"
Just the other day I had a friend say exactly the same thing. I brought her up to speed on the sordid details.

9. I've done the same thing with people I know.
I also throw in some doubt as to when he first started dating his first wife Carol who had previously been married to a classmate of his at Annapolis.

Pre-internet, this is what used to be called a 'whisper' campaign.
