Convention Speakers/Schedule and What I Deduce From It
Convention Speakers and Agenda

Here's the latest list of speakers and other events at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. The list of names does not imply any specific order to the speeches.

Monday, August 25:
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri
Tribute to Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts
Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama’s older brother to introduce...
Michelle Obama

Tuesday, August 26:
Convention Co-Chair Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius
Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano
Governors Ted Strickland of Ohio
Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania
Senator Bob Casey, Jr. of Pennsylvania
Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts
Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana
Federico Peña, former Mayor of Denver and Secretary of both Energy and Transportation
Keynote Speaker: Former Governor Mark Warner of Virginia
Senator Hillary Clinton of New York

Wednesday, August 27:
President Bill Clinton
Governor Bill Richardson
Senator Joe Biden
Senator Jay Rockefeller
Senator Evan Bayh
Senator Harry Reid
Senator Ken Salazar
Congressman Jim Clyburn
Congressman Patrick Murphy
Iraq War Veteran Tammy Duckworth
VP acceptance speech

Thursday, August 28:
Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr.
Barack Obama acceptance speech

Some may say Obama stuck his V.P. choice on the list of speakers for Wednesday night. You have Bayh, Biden, and Richardson as possibilities if that is true. But I don't think so. None of these candidates fit in with the Vet theme for that night and for other reasons surrounding IWR and real change.

Which brings me to Wesley Clark.

Clark heavily supported Tammy Duckworth during the 2006 elections, raising money for her through WesPac, etc. She is speaking that night. I have a feeling she will be introducing him that night. Also, Patti Solis Doyle is supposedly the new V.P.'s Chief of Staff. Why would Obama hire her as his V.P.'s Chief of Staff if it wasn't someone close to the Clinton campaign and familiar with someone in that circle?

Securing America is the theme. Hmmmm.

i don't think it's really a "Vet" Theme but rather national security theme
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 10:28 PM by JI7
and in that case those people would fit into it.

but so does Wes Clark and from what i read they named the night the same thing as Clark's group.

Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 10:35 PM by redstate_democrat
It could be Kaine? Solis Doyle could work due to Kaine's connection with the Hispanic community. Hmmm. BUT, Securing America is the theme, and I believe that is THE clue.

I think it's down to Kaine or Clark.

35. Yeah really.... This ((((HAS)))) to be a draft schedule that they're still working on..

No Howard Dean?

No Al Gore?

No.. ... I dunno.. gimme a little more time and I'm sure I'll come up with a long list of missing speakers..

Seriously though. That schedule has to be a "work in progress", non-finalized edition.

12. Obama couldn't have a harder job right now.
He has so many qualified people to pick from but I personally am excited about Gen. Clark even though Kaine comes a close second. Argh, it's so nerve-wracking waiting but I'm loving the suspense. Can you imagine McCain and his supporters and how they'll crap bricks when Clark is announced as the VP?? Oh, good times.

I know they all can't speak.. but you'd think some of them would be squeezed in.

Or maybe they're still working the schedule?

I think it was on Hartmann, but I cannot recall. "securing America's future" seems to tell me that he's be the pick, but I'd like to see if he will even be in attendance.

18. #1 Rule of a VP: DO NO HARM. Wesley Clark will not be picked
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 09:05 AM by trewsx11
I like Wes Clark, but he is a terrible VP choice. Not a very good campaigner, a political neophyte, and has a reputation for making strange remarks. Too easy for the GOP to tear apart, being fired from NATO, almost starting World War III, and according to General Hugh Shelton "had character and integrity issues."

Obama's VP choice is going to be a complete surprise. Someone along the lines of Timothey Roemer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_J._Roemer

If not him, someone like him. A policy wonk that is not well known...a CEO of a major corporation, a former Clinton cabinet official, a diplomat/statesman/foreign policy type (but NOT Bill Richardson), etc....

20. I Disagree
He will NOT be easy for the pukes to tear apart.
Starting WWIII? Quite the opposite, he saved the lives of 1.5 million Ethnic Albanians by skipping the military's chain
of command and running the campaign he did. Also, not one American soldier died in combat. When he did this,
he took a risk, regardless of what it cost him. Did you ever see the 60 Minutes II interview with Dan Rather? The
LAST thing Clark would EVER do is start WWIII.
I wouldn't put much stock in hugh shelton. He has refused to explain his smear of Wes Clark. He's a jealous, bitter man.
People like that are the ones with "character and integrity issues."

that sounds just like a jab with a RW talking points memo...no background, just sharp/pointy and meant to inflict damage...there IS much more to be said about all of the things you bring up...

I gotta tell you...IF I went over the side of a cliff in a vehicle that was on fire from an RPG, or landmine...I would much rather have Wes Clark in the car behind me than any of his detractors...at least I know Wes would do everything in his power to save me, including coming over the side of that cliff on his own to do so...wouldn't trust that Shelton or many other 4 stars would do the same...wb

Also, suspiciously absent from that list
John Kerry and Jim Webb. I'm actually pretty surprised that both the men are not on the list; Webb because he's a new and very popular Senator from Virginia and Obama is working hard to get Virginia. And Kerry becuase he has been a huge and very early Obama supporter. Hmmmmm.

But, HOW does he leave Kaine off the list of speakers that seems to include anyone and everyone that was considered (other than Clark and Kaine)
