69. There's nothing to stop him from naming Biden as Sec'y of State either
That slot is a better use of his time & talents (?) if you ask me. Think about it in private sector terms: You do the job most of the time before you 'have' the job.

VP needs to be more of a pit bull and able to play 'bad cop' when necessary -- so look who's been showing up as the surrogates on the Sunday morning and cable news talk shows (from the OBAMA campaign only of course). Biden hasn't been pulling those gigs as far as I've seen, and I've been watching quite a bit. Clark, Webb, Kaine, Richardson, Bayh, Sebelius, McCaskill - yes. Biden - no. I think it's because there are simply too many chances to lay an oratorical egg, so to speak.)

On the other hand...Biden's gifts would serve him well as S o S, don't you agree? Wonderful command of the facts on the ground, a great amount of credibility (and favors -- don't forget the favors to be called in) among fellow lawmakers. And VPs aren't dispatched to emerging military crises...In other words, Cheney hasn't gone anywhere, Colin Powell or Condoleeza Rice have. In the prior administrations, it was Albright not Gore who went on the peacekeeping/negotiation/fact-finding trips.

13. I saw Richardson on Wednesday...
He spoke in place of Obama at our IL Democratic State/County Convention in Springfield. Our table was two away from his, and we were 3 tables from the stage. Great speech and he was very real/personable. I did feel sorry for him, because during the early speeches by state & US Pols, people kept coming up to his table asking for pictures and doing autographs. I just couldn't get on board with that. Let the guy eat his breakfast, drink his coffee, and listen to the speeches. Interrupting him like that was not only rude to him, but to those speaking :(

I like Richardson a lot, he seems real and comfortable to be around and not one for putting on airs.

yes, you have to be a special kind of breed to tolerate all that privacy interrruption. I know it would make me crazy - I'd probably throw a pancake at them . ;)

30. Hillary Clinton, August 18th
Everything Obama has done has set up the elements of control and drama he needs to unveil Ms. C as "number two." The convention will be a lovefest. Everybody, including the fence sitters, will feel motivated and enthused. The media will love the show and will replay its key moments over and over again.

I don't think that Bill has been told, by the way. That might have been one of the tests.

Note: I voted for Clinton in the primaries, but had mixed feelings about both candidates in equal proportion.

Second note: My brother, a long-time Freep member who was even quoted by Matt Drudge once, has *hated* the Clintons for years. It was a visceral dislike -- his face got red when he talked about them.

He visited me this past weekend and: He has changed his mind about Hillary. He believes she has "grown" as a leader and says he would vote for her. He admired her tenacity during the primaries. I was in shock after my conversation with him, because his feelings about the Clintons had been so vehement in the past.

Second choice: Wes Clark Third choice: Joe Biden
