1. If we're going just based on Governors who can speak fluent foreign languages,
We should pick Schweitzer, he speaks Arabic.

10. No, but it's a wonderful skill to have..
he was also Mayor of Richmond Virginia, which has a very large African-American population, and was very popular there.

3. Seriously, is that what makes him possible Presidential material?
That, and the fact that he's Catholic? Can somebody offer me some sign that this man is ready to step in and handle national and international crises as President, BEYOND his two or three years as Governor?

15. I Never Felt Right About Him Either

Dorkerman? Hello?

He's the guy who used to be the 2000 Democratic Vice Presidential nominee. He was, in fact, lawfully elected.

19. He's been an elected official for 13 yrs.
nine of which are exec experience.

Lest we forget, states, cities and counties are the locus of most of our governing. And that's where Kaine's experience is helpful to Obama - as a mayor, lt. governor, and governor.

Gov Kaine was given a lot of praise for the way he handled the VA Tech shooting.

Unlike Bayh, and Biden, he isn't tainted by the greatest foreign policy blunder in American history. I'd hate to see Obama lose his advantage on Iraq, his argument that judgment trumps experience, because of the VP on his ticket

I've watched Kaine on Charlie Rose, Face the Nation, campaign videos for Obama, and Kaine appears to be whip-smart, very focused, and in tune with Obama's goals and vision for the country. He comes across as genuine, decent, and has none of the slickness and vacuity of a Bayh. Imo, he will make Obama appear more down to earth and 'normal', less 'exotic' and glamorous, which should help after all the 'celeb' ads. He is reputed to be a very good campaigner. He, and not Warner or Webb, 'delivered' Va to Obama in the primary.

I think Kaine would be a solid choice for Obama. Sure, Mark Warner might be ideal but it appears O isn't able to get him. FDR, another first-term governor, was considered an average, mediocre, governor because he had the misfortune of following an exceptional one, Al Smith.

5. I looking for the video of the debate he had running for governor
where it was said by Virginias that it really helped him win his election.
Some said that he kicked his opponents ass. I would like to see if he's got
the bull dog in him that's needed.

13. i wouldn't say he got big-time swiftboated
kilgore imploded and his hitler-death-penalty thing backfired with too little time left to make up for it. plus, and mainly, tim tied himself to mark, so in effect he rode mark's coattails four years later. the lefty va blogosphere isn't too happy with tim right now, so he really doesn't add anything to the ticket as far as adding to the existant obama enthusiasm.

as far as tim goes, i'm more worried that his unpopularity will affect us next year.

14. I watched it live -- he also makes anti-gay rights and anti-choice comments in the debate
I voted for him, as VA Gov but I won't vote for him as VP.

12. I would support Kaine
He would do well as a VP candidate and as a VP.

I would support whoever gets to be Obama's pick.

However, my favorite is Wes Clark. A progressive who happens to have foreign policy/security credentials.

The Old Dominion State does not have a foreign policy, to my knowledge.

17. If Obama picks Kaine as his VP, then he screws VA big time
Because VA's Lt. Gov. is a conservative Republican.

18. Nope. I will NOT be voting for Kaine on a national ticket.
If Kaine wanted a future in national/federal politics, he should have taken positions that weren't so far out of the mainstream. As a gay man, Kaine's opposition to civil unions is a deal-breaker against him.
