Suggests economic reparations from Russia for damage to Georgia

8. He's saying this has been a strategy of Russia's

and Georgia is naturally the first target in the quest to return to dominance. Different from Bush/McCain...
quickly taking sides.

12. Did he mention that Georgia was the one that attacked Ossetia?
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 05:04 PM by blogslut
It's kind of an important detail.

13. I didn't hear it. Shut-out on media questioning timing and McCain's influence, if any.

He said it was Russia that attacked Ossetia. I am hoping it was a flub.

15. I agree. Georgia moved in, and Russia responded

A stupid on Georgia's part. Did they think Russia was going "to turn the other way"?
I wonder if their friend McCain and/or Bush told them we would come to their aide?
After all, the Iran plan didn't seem to have wings- they needed a back up plan.

On the other hand, Wesley Clark does know a thing, or two, about that region. There
may have been some elbowing going on.

17. Do some searches on GD
They're all over it. For example, remember when KKKarl was conveniently on vacay so he couldn't testify for the House Judiciary hearings last month? Well, guess where he was?

18. No way!

I didn't know that. Like I've said, they needed a backup plan to the Iran plan, seeing
it wasn't as easy as they thought it would be. And to bring back the cold war will
certainly bring out the patriotism in the republican base (which McCain needs more
than ever).

Thanks for that info.

20. After the end of the cold war
as the old client states declared independence, some disputed territories remained. Russia put bases in those countries and called them peace keepers. This is not a black and white situation. Russia wants Georgia to preclude the West from using alternative pipelines. There have been skirmishes in the past that challenged the Georgian government. This same scenario can be repeated in several other countries. Georgia acted the fool, but Russia is not blameless.

Do you trust Putin the head of the KGB? I don't trust Cheney, Putin, or any of those bastards. I saw one article posted at DU today that was from the Russian news. I don't trust CNN and I certainly don't trust Fox. Why would I believe the Russian news?

At this moment I'm listening to a video from the Brussels' Forum where a panel including a representive from Moscow. This is from Jan. 08 and they are discussing many of the background issues that we're seeing playing out today.

Brussels Forum

There is a second panel I intend to watch later.

21. And many KGB members became the russian mafia and...

the goergian mafia became very powerful in the former USSR. Big conflict there. Of course,
no one really knows how it played out, but I'm sure Georgia has some power. Where does
John McCain come in????

There have been noted assassinations of popular (outspoken) journalists that have been blamed
on Russia (no surprise). Not a good tangled web to get involved in.

10. I watched it...don't see what his supporters see. He's wonky and measured...
I can't see him holding up in a debate with whatever "fighting fish" McCain chooses for Veep in a debate.

I've liked his quiet, softspoken, intelligent, nuanced opinions. But, American People today don't do "nuance." He's too wonky to be VEEP but, he'd be great in Obama's Cabinet.

 Just MHO.

16. You can't see him debating McCain or Pawlenty?

There's one lousy debate. I'm sure he can handle himself against whatever "moran" McCain
picks. And if it's Huckabee? Like he's so knowledgeable on world affairs.
