1. He should never attack--he should only COUNTERATTACK
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 01:33 PM by rocknation
McCain's the one on the ropes, who has to fight for credibility and respectability. Obama should respond only by pointing out the flaws in McCain's negativity and counter it with something positive about himself.

11. Saying bad things about an opponent in an ad is negative,
...even if the bad things are true.

3. Your defense cannot stay on the field the entire game
SOMETIMES your offense has to take the field.

6. It's McCain who's been forced to keep his defense on the field
Obama should be ready to defend against him but keep up a positive offense.

4. I think Obama's tone should become more forceful
Sometimes, negative ads work. McCain needs to be called out on some seriously bad shit. But Obama needs to keep his focus no matter what his campaign decides to do.

5. Yes - but his "negative" ads have substance where McCain's don't --
his DFW spot is an excellent example -- and it's not "nasty" negative. I think he's got the right touch.

8. Tell the truth about McCain's environmental record.
McCain is presenting himself as an environmentalist.

However,

"2007 Based on a point system, with points assigned for actions in support of or in opposition to League of Conservation Voters's position, Senator McCain received a rating of 0."

13. I like what they are doing.
Positive national ads, hardball local buys targeting specific issues, like the extremely effective "DHL" ad in Ohio.

14. He needs to go negative after labor day
He shouldn't make it his key strategy, but he needs to start getting a bit rougher and go after McCain's character, especially the whole "Maverick" myth. I know he's done it a little, but he needs to make more ads. Very clever and hard hitting ads.
