Barack Obama's body-surfing video
Barack Obama's body-surfing video

The Democratic and Republican candidates will share a stage on Saturday.

by Mark Silva and updated.

In the realm of seaside politics and runaway metaphors, the junior senator from Illinois would seem to be catching a certain wave.

Along an overlook on the South Shore of Oahu, Barack Obama also visited the spot where he had scattered his mother's ashes after her death. Obama stood quietly and sprinkled flowers from a lei into the ocean, the surf crashing on the rocks.

On his week long vacation to the island - Obama also visited his grandfather's grave in Punchbowl Cemetery. Obama brought his wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Malia and Sasha, to lay a flower lei at his grave.

There is no doubt that this body-surfing image will serve the returning-to-campaigning senator better than that memorable footage of Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic nominee for president, wind-surfing.

Obama returns to Chicago today, and tomorrow he will join his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, on a minister's stage for an event that CNN will broadcast live.

1. It seems like an effort to stay grounded before a hectic campaign
I can certainly respect that...

6. Wow, way for the AP to go paparazzo. That's just creepy.
But then again, tabloid/paparazzi sites like TMZ actually got licensed as news sites so the standards of journalism is obviously very low.
