McCain Raises $27 Million in July

Friday, August 15th, 2008

On morning conference call, McCain topper Rick Davis touts the http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1833092,00.html">best fundraising month yet for the candidate.

Together with the RNC, they have more than $100 million cash on hand, which “gives us plenty of money… to prosecute a very active campaign in the month of August.”

Also announce some 600,000 donors.

Also says he’s “thrilled” that McCain and Obama now have “a pretty even race,” and the recent attack ads against Obama have energized the GOP base.

1. How much of that money came from big oil?
And how much of that energized GOP base is composed of racists who feel they now have cover?

6. He raised about $55 million last month. I think he'll probably hit that number or higher
The question is how much the RNC can continue to raise. The RNC can continue to raise money for the general, even if McCain sticks with public financing.

Obama is raising a lot of money, but it is still about the same as McCain and RNC combined. The DNC is not raising that much money, so Obama has to make up for it.

3. After the conventions isn't McCain accepting federal funds so he can't exceed that?

7. Bad news
First, this is a lot more than he had. With the press, 527, etc. Obama needs a big advantage in campaign funds.

Second, another 26M went to the RNC, which McCain can use after the convention. He'll also have the $84M of public financing to spend basically over 2 months. With this kind of take, he can spend campaign money up through the convention instead of RNC money (close to $100M cash on hand), so with the RNC's money and the 84M, he will have over $100 million to spend per month after the convention.

With 3 months to go, Obama's going to have to raise a lot -- a lot of money to counter that. Even with 2 million donors, he'll need another $100 per donor just to get even not counting the 527s.

Not trying to be a concern troll. Rather, I'm saying TIME TO DONATE TO OBAMA.

9. I don't think they do. I could be wrong but I think they have a seperate fund for Congressional
and Senatorial elections.
