Just saw a blurb on Lou Dobbs on the new MoveOn ads
Looked like a dinner, waitress, and maybe female lawyer(?). Sounds like a scene from Al Frankins book.

Anybody know anything about this?

1. There is a good piece about this in the current New Yorker.
A famous movie director had the idea for doing "real people" testimonials for Kerry. The hook? They are Republicans disillusioned with Bush who are now supporting Kerry. The director (can't recall his name off-hand, sorry) contacted the Kerry campaign but was put off for a time, so he decided to go directly to Moveon.org. They received thousands of replies to an inquiry asking for "switchers" and culled it down to a handful that will appear in print & TV ads.

Pretty cool!

4. Yes, I saw that too! Wasn't it great? Made me hungry for more!
Those ads are part of MoveOn's "10 Weeks" ad push; read more about it here, and sign up so you can see the ads this Friday!

The particular ad you saw looked fantastic... I was dying to know what they were talking about! Illeana Douglas played the business-attired woman, and Ione Skye played the waitress who looked to be getting in an argument with her. Not sure who the chap at the end of the bar was...

6. Ok I have not seen them yet
but that dinner one looked like something that Al wrote in his last book.....waitress and lawyer discussing *'s tax cuts.

Just wondering if they used the script he wrote in that book.

7. I haven't read Al's book, but I'll bet you're right.
There's a working class guy at the end of the counter, watching something on TV. He makes some kind of comment to nobody in particular, and the Ileana Douglas character, the business woman or whatever, pipes up. That draws the waitress (Ione Skye), busy cutting pie, into the conversation. She says things, and Douglas just rolls her eyes.

Please, more info on the Al Franken version! :-)

8. Here goes
Its in Al Franken's book "Lies and the Lying Liers Who Tell Them; A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right", Chapter 36, "The Waitress and the Lawyer: A One Act Play".

Takes place in a dinner, the waitress (Donna) and the Lawyer (Allison) are discussing Bush's Tax cut:

Allison: "Sure you're getting a $365 cut in your income tax, but you're forgetting the $3,825 that was withheld in payroll taxes"

Donna: "Ok, I don't mind the payrool taxes, because I'll get every cent back in Social Security and Medicare when I retire."

Allison: "Honey, Bush raided the Social Security and Medicare trust funds to pay for my tax cut."

And so forth. If you ave not read the book get it, it's worth it just for Al's rants against Ann Coulter.

9. That's fantastic!
And not what I expected from watching the "muted" ad during Lou Dobbs tonight.

From my perspective, the "lawyer" character was getting her ass handed to her. Your version is much more cutting!!

I can't wait to see how it plays out, and I'll bet your dialogue from the Franken book will be spot-on.
