Scene: Hospital maternity ward. Young mother cuddles new baby while Dad sits on the edge of her bed admiring baby's smile.
Music: Tune plays melody to "Go to sleep, go to sleep, da, da, da, da - da,da, da
Scene: Closeup of baby gripping Daddy's finger. switch to closeup of baby's face, smiling.
Voiceover, grandmotherly female voice: A new baby . . a most blessed time for young couples starting down the road of life - growing the new families that will become America's future.
Sound: Knock at the door.
Dad looks up, puzzled, says: Come in.
Scene: Man in suit enters room with official looking envelope in hand (Republican looking of course. Red tie, Chamber of Commerce type, slightly overfed.)
Dialogue: Hi, I'm from the government. As part of our new full-disclosure program I'd like to give you this little bill. It's for "snookums" here. I know you don't need to worry about all this right now but "baby" is responisble for her share of the new US deficit, which comes to, let's see here, (as he opens the envelope) $43,758.36. Of course this will be higher by the time she actually starts paying it down - interest you know.
And, oh yeah, here's a little kit to get baby started off on the right foot. It's a social debit card. We used to call them social security cards - but that's just so - 90's now.
Talking about the right foot, mind if I get a little footprint while I'm here? (He pulls out a fingerprint pad and ink and moves Daddy aside on the bed. Voice trails off.
Scene: Closeup of baby's foot getting fingerprint impression. This plays during . .
Voiceover, John Kerry: Just four short years ago, thanks to sensible fiscal policies enacted during the Clinton administration, our nation was looking at budget surpuses and a healthy outlook for our social security system.
Today, we're looking at huge deficits of trillions of dollars as far as the eye can see and a doubtful future for SS. A lot of damage has been done already. But if we act now can still save some of those gains from the past.
Scene: John Kerry, torso shot, in shirt sleeves.
Dialogue, John Kerry: But, this is important. This could be our last chance to turn back toward the sensible fiscal policies we so recently abandoned. Please, help me put America back on the track to sensible, competent fiscal responsibility this November. Help me save all our children from a dismal future of huge debt, stangant growth and projected high inflation that will probably last throughout their lives . . certainly, long after we are gone.
Common sense is not partisan, it's just the right thing for America.
Scene: Camera moves in for closeup of Kerry's face.
John Kerry: I know we can do better.
Fade to scene: Back to baby face - smiling in Momma's arms
Voiceover: I'm John Kerry and I approve of this ad.
