OMG!!!! Check this out! OK, you probably alread knew about Florida...
Florida is looking good for Obama, the trend is positive:

I kind of feel, after the last two elections and the hotly contested primary there, that Florida may be a bellweather state.

One more thing: DON'T POST EDWARDS CRAP ON GD-P!!!!

How hard is that? I just had to hide like 30 threads, two clicks at a time, because of the number of Edwards posts.

People, please, have a cocktail or other cool beverage, and give some consideration to where you should post your comments.

Jeez.

2. It had to be said.
And in a way that wouldn't get locked and moved to another forum.

Shit, at least two of the threads I had to hide were trying to suggest the same thing...

3. Hotly contested primary?
I must have missed that.

Florida will be tough because of Christ, but hopefully Obama will be able to figure out a strategy to get around that. Looks like it will be very close.

4. I'd rephrase that...
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 09:25 PM by NYC_SKP
Contentious...contentious primary for reasons of the delegates and ballot, etc...

edited to check where the red "edited" goes, on the top, I think, we'll see.

5. IF BO can get Florida, he will have KILLED McCain ...
Me - I am not counting on Florida at all ...

Not one bit, too many gall darn old people which is McCain's demo along with too many rednecks AND too much institutional R machine type politics, not to mention the funky stuff that generated from the lost primary ...

If he wins Florida he is pushing or hitting 300 EVs ...

7. It would be quite a coup to take it.
Even if it's very unlikely. The graph looks good at this point.

Of course, I really wanted to rant about the Edwards posts without being moved myself, thus the Florida subject line.

Obama's doing really well in other states too, I don't bother much with national polls.

8. Yeah ...
the upside to Florida is that if he does manage to push it close and force McCain to campaign/spend money down there ... Keeps him tied up and resources out of other states ...

As with you, I track a couple of electoral sites every day, and that lends a little more comfort than the reported national polls ...

9. Could be that a significant
portion of the population recognizes in McCain the effects of over-swilling Geritol. . .hey, I'm 60, I get to say stuff like that.

10. I'm not far behind you.
My mom's 82 and when I explained that people my age would have to live with her vote longer than she would, she ended up voting for Obama.

If older voters think about it, they just might seen in McCain the nutty guy across the rec room and say, "maybe not a good idea."

Charlie Crist. Not Christ, Jesus Christ. For a minute I thought you were talking about the influence of the fundamentalists.

12. The trend favors Obama
I remember when McCain had a 16% lead in the Rasmussen poll back in January. Great job there by Obama.

Florida-born for the first time in a long time.

But I'll keep my fingers crossed even as I cast my GA ballot for Obama.

21. Obama can win Florida but it will have to be with large voter turn out
I live in Florida and here is how the state breaks down:

Southeast Florida: Democratic
Southwest Florida: Leans Republican
I-4 Corridor: Toss Up
Jacksonville: Democratic
North Florida: Republican
West Florida: Republican

If we can get larger voter turn out in SE, SW, Jacksonville, and the I-4 corridor, then Obama will be able to win Fl.

22. I disagree
SW Florida is solid republican. Sarasota is slightly rep, but Venice, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, and Naples are heavily Rep... not sure about Ft Myers these days. I-4 corridor (I'm including st Pete/Tampa here)leans republican. North Fl is democrat that typically votes republican. West Fl is solid republican.

I think the Fl poll numbers reflect strong support for Obama from AAs, and weak support for McCain from the fundies and anti-bush republicans. Remember, Crist was elected by a pretty solid amount just a couple years ago. If he is on the ballot, Bob Barr could get a fair amount of votes - perhaps as much as 5 or 6%.

Selecting Bob Graham as VP would definately turn the numbers for Obama. Graham would garner a lot of elderly voters, swinging the I-4 corridor to Obama and peeling away a lot of SW Florida retiree voters. He would also get strong support from the N Fl Dems who usually vote puke.

he mentioned more?

25. He's not terribly exciting on the stump.
But he knows how govt works inside and out. Obama has enough charisma to carry the ticket, Graham has the knowledge to restore all the govt functions chimpCo has destroyed.

There are more registered Dems in my district than repukes. I can't remember the last time that happened.

Hate to pour it but Obama has spent like 5m there and McCain zero. They said it was because he knows his support is the snow birds and he's waiting for them to land.
