Could the Edwards revelation hurt ... McCain?

This puts the topic of illicit affairs by presidential candidates in the news. Were the situation reversed, every rightwinger in politics or the media would mention the fact that the candidate who actually won the other party's nomination did the same thing.

I am not so foolish as to hope that our side will come out 100% behind this talking point. But maybe 10% of them might?

Okay, I guess I am being too hopeful.

1. In a just world it would.
The first thing I thought of when the story broke was how no one seems to care that McCain committed adultery against his disabled first wife.

2. If McCain tries to gain by it - and somebody (like Nancy Reagan) speaks out.

3. Exactly - We need to push this story
to be covered in the M$M. I wonder if Keith Olbermann will cover it?

4. Smarmy Bill Kristol was just asked the question of whether the Edwards controversy
will impact the Obama-McCain matchup. He said something really curious -- to the effect that "these things are like weird shaped rubber balls that can bounce in a number of different directions."

5. John McCain had an affair and he's still running.
Edwards is twice the man McCain will ever be.

12. Think if Obama had a previous affair they would link this story with his name?
Will they even mention McSame or are they going to keep their difference?

But now I know why the sudden withdrawal before the table debate and Super Tuesday.

Sorry to say but now, I don't have the same trust him anymore. Lets be honest. This isn't your little fib.

6. No. The media will not dare air negative McClown stories.

7. Now is the time to capitalize on the media and publics appetite for this trash
I believe we have an opportunity here to get some people to pay attention to McCain's past. I would wager that there's a team of investigators out there working on this as we type this.

The media knows that the Edwards story will only go so far - since he's not a candidate at this point. But McCain, on the other hand, is still in the thick of things and a current candidate. They can't ignore it if enough noise is made about it - especially if McCain or his surrogates make a comment about the Edwards affair.

Although I doubt the McCain camp will be fanning the flames because of the obvious repercussions, I bet many other Republicans will whip this into a frenzy. I hope we're ready and loaded for bear!

9. I thougth the same thing - McSame's adultery needs brought up by ALL Dem commentators when talking
about this issue... They need to say, "Since John McCain is an admitted adulter who cheated on his wife, then divorced her, I think it should be discussed that this man is one of the two who has the only real chance to become president now"

10. I caught a bit of of MSNBC when the news was breaking and the RW
mouthpiece that was on there was talking about how Edwards was finished forever in politics and his career was over, blah, blah, blah.

The first thought in my mind was how those glass houses can shatter if you're not very careful. McSame is no saint, his political career hasn't suffered one whit. I don't see them using this in any great way, without getting some blowback.

11. Only if a McCain spokesman decides to run with it.
Honestly, I really do hope they're dumb enough to try it - but they won't.

McCain's full sordid history of womanizing, cheating, and spousal abandonment would become fair game at that point. They really don't want that.
