Bonior: Edwards supporters 'betrayed'
Bonior: Edwards supporters 'betrayed'

From the AP:

David Bonior, Edwards' campaign manager for his 2008 presidential bid, said Friday he was disappointed and angry after hearing about Edwards' confession.

"Thousands of friends of the senators and his supporters have put their faith and confidence in him and he's let him down," said Bonior, a former congressman from Michigan. "They've been betrayed by his action."

Asked whether the affair would damage Edwards' future aspirations in public service, Bonior replied: "You can't lie in politics and expect to have people's confidence."

6. Or VP.
Yikes. We really dodged a bullet.

And I know, Clinton beat this, but barely and that was almost a year before the election. Of course, had 1992 taken place in 2008, Clinton would have been toast, too, with all the media coverage.

2. Oh, for heaven's sakes.
Hyperbole much??! Stuff happens, people are human. The only person betrayed here was Elizabeth Edwards. The rest of us have no business in John Edwards' sex life.

12. And manufactured a fall guy as the supposed father of the child, and told his staff to lie...
Edwards deserves all the scorn anyone heaps upon him.

3. It is pretty low to take money from voters (especially poor voters)...
...and run for office, knowing he could be derailed at any moment ~ like AFTER getting the nomination.

4. Not really.
I voted for him in the primaries. Would do it all again given the chance.

The man is human, and did something incredibly stupid. We've all been there, to some extent or another.

17. We've all done things at some point we aren't proud of.
And if you say no to that, I'll call your bullshit and raise you double.

11. Judging by his reaction, probably not.
Bonior has always been one of the most scrupulously ethical pols around. Hell, maybe HE'D make a good AG for Obama. :-(

19. My sympathies to Edwards supporters...
Trust in a candidate is the glue to holds it all together.

As for the affair, it's none of my business. The Edwards family needs to heal from this.

As for Edwards denying it all along and the possibility that he could have been the nominee and how we would be screwed (no pun intended) at this point, it's seriously puts into question Edwards' judgment.

As for the Edwards fans, time will heal from this disappointment.
