BREAKING-Man arrested for threatening to assassinate Obama!
Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 02:58 PM by jenmito
Raymond Hunter Giesel is being held without bail in FL. He made a threat a couple weeks ago. His SUV and hotel room had a loaded handgun, knives, lots of ammunition, and a machete. :scared:

26. Well I was thinking that when I read your post and when I responded.
Probably a LOT. And many of them wouldn't make threats beforehand and draw attention to themselves. I don't think John Hinckley did, did he?

And then I was thinking that the security is so much more stringent now than when Reagan was shot, that such an instance is probably far less likely to occur. I hope I'm right.

and if Obama and his family are willing to run despite the crazies like this guy, we gotta support that decision, all though I DO worry.

37. Yep - we just have to hope for the best and trust that he's got the best
of the best protecting him. There is nothing WE can do (except turn in our whacko RW neighbors if they make any threats).

This guy didn't get close, and Obama was never actually in danger. Reassure your mom Obama has the best protection available.

47. I think the SS take their charge of protecting their person
VERY seriously. Even Bush supporters, I think, would give their lives to protect Obama if the situation arose. They've got a lot of personal integrity.

I know this because I read a lot of novels. :)

Actually, a friend of mine was married to an SS agent, and regardless of his personal leanings, his "boss" was the person he was protecting. Period.

55. Seriously, why are we acting like we are surprised here.
How many liberals, progressives, etc. have died in the hands of so called conservatives in the last few decades? Just a few weeks ago an Unitarian church was attacked for their liberal tendencies. We can as progressives coward up and let the republicans intimidate us or keep up the fight.

53. no comparison, Rwanda wasn't about 800,000 assassinations.
I know that's picking at words, assassination and murder,
but the motives are a lot different.

most if not all the assassinations in america have been by gun, not machetes.
unless you can throw one of those over long distances.

Sorry, that's just the sad reality. We've got a lot heavily-armed, racist vermin out there who have been absorbing decades worth of RW vitriol from dawn to dusk. Fortunately, I believe that the secret service professionals are a helluva lot more competent than the whack-a-doodles.

Really, it's best to NOT think about these things (easier said than done). Plus, I don't think this is the first time the SS have taken a man in for being a threat to Barack. I think someone had been following him around with a knife?
