I wanted a chance to answer a question on previous post.
Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 12:53 PM by Rainbowreflect
The question was, what makes Obama the better candidate?

IMHO there are many, many reasons, but the biggest ones to me are these, in no particular order.

1. He is smart. Nice for a change.
2. He gives back, he's life does not seem to be focused on money or power, but about making a difference.
3. I believe his ability to motivate and excite people will help us get things done when he is President.
4. He treats us like we are adults and can understand how complex most issues are. He may have more faith in the American people than we really deserve.
5. He can keep his cool when people are idiots.
6. He actually knows what our constitution says and what it means.

Please feel free to add your thoughts!

8. Thanks! I guess I am dumb, but I don't understand what is
wrong about posting positives about the Democratic candidate on a Democratic site.

3. He is using his experience as a community organizer to energize Democrats all over the place
Here in AZ his campaign was the first to have a volunteer organization on the ground and running. We are going to pick up seats in local races all over the country because of Obama.

I have nothing to add, really - - but only because you said it so eloquently. He's a wodnerful candidate, and we are very, very lucky to have him. Thanks for pointing it out so well. :-)

15. I Can Add a Few
1.) He lives and breathes his family values. And as such, when he puts "strengthening the role of fathers in families" in his platform, he knows what he's talking about.

2.) Similarly, as said in the original message, because HE believes in giving back, he can ask it of the American people - he is willing to lead by example. This is evidenced by his plan to create a public service corps.

3.) He uses his role as a Senator judiciously, he votes when it counts, on things like the Veteran's bill - and clearly when he needs to, he puts his role as Senator ahead of the campaign trail... or personal down-time.

4.) He knows how to take the high road (instead of dirty politics) in ways that make it possible to move forward, build unlikely alliances and end stalemates in our government. He does not point fingers at people, he does not blame others, and as such, solutions are possible.

5.) He is respected abroad by many - and can pave the road to the healing that is needed after the last 8 years.

There... I did it. I praised him without disparaging anyone else. I let go of my tendency to stick with "because he's not a Republican, and he's not aligned with Bush".

In the end, if we win, it will probably be because of a sucky economy: high gas prices, high unemployment rates, high foreclosure rate, etc. It's painful, it makes Americans desire change unlike anything else I know of, and it's an issue that overrides our "passions". Heck. A sucky economy is an issue that most Americans easily unite around.

But I think the other things are also important. *I* like the idea of having someone in office who exudes intelligence and integrity.
