How late in the campaign before we start hitting McCain on the Keating 5?

August is too soon..... Should we start pushing this in October?

The Keating 5 scandal should be hung around McCain's neck like an albatross. And it *IS* relevant to today, with all of the banks going under and the government bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The last large increase in the deficit... 1991 and 1992... was because the government had to bail out the S&Ls.... McCain has culpability there because of his involvement in the Keating 5.

Politically speaking.... when should we hit this? And should it be the Obama campaign itself or just some 527s?

Or maybe... we keep our powder dry on this and only use it if we have to?

1. As briefly as possible: Early-mid Sept., right after the GOP convention, and use a 527. n/t

2. Got to leave something for October
After being on the receiving end so many times, Democrats have a golden opportunity to unload a surprise every news cycle in October! :bounce:

8. Lord knows there's a ton of unsavory information they could be highlighting...
but I agree, it needs to be set loose closer to the GE. *We* having such a short attention (and memory) and all.

Give ole poopy, droopy drawers a verbal double barrel shotgun blast right in his arse.

Can't wait, hope they go for it!

3. Obama campaign holding back the really powerful stuff...
...to nail McSame until the last couple months of the campaign.

That's according to some talking head yesterday on MSNBC.

5. Yea and Kerry's holding back the big stuff..........
like "What did AWOL/Moron do in response to the 8/6/01 Memo....."

He's holding that one back until just the right time..... meanwhile, by this month in 2004 Kerry had been completely defined as "I was for it before I was against it...."

This is another losing campaign, IMO.

7. Good Question

I've been wondering about this myself - - it just popped into my head today, before I saw your post.

I like the idea of using a 527 to do it, or maybe the DNC. I'm not sure, at this point, that Barack has anything to gain by going - - or perhaps better put, any real need to go - - negative. It's early, sure, but isn't it nice to have our little gnarled adversary down in the gutter, sniping away, while Obama stays on message? :-)

Nonetheless, I think a reminder of the Keating Five scandal - - which was devastating at the time, and only seems mild today because of the scope of this "Administration's" panoply of misdeeds - - is a very sound idea.
