The stuff floating around in e-mails...Obama shunning soldiers??

Got this forwarded by a friend who received it. That crap like this is floating around is highly disturbing. That Obama is on a tight schedule and could have been hustled past some gathered to see him I find plausible. That a particular soldier could have felt slighted I find plausible. The writer is either extremely touchy or this is totally fabricated crap...

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along
that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his
visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened.
He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area
to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.

As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't
say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he
finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top
tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights)
so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the
opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.

So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home
that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make
an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are
providing the freedom that they are providing for you.

I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas
Cowboy Cheer leaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the
President of the United States. I just don't understand how anyone would
want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared
to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what
kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,
CPT Jeffrey S. Porter
Battle Captain
TF Wasatch
American Soldier

5. Thanks for letting me know... if someone has a debunking link I'd be grateful
I follow the news closely, but don't catch everything. I'd like to send my friend something to debunk it.

8. Here's a link to the FactCheck article.. Some people told me they
prefer to use Fact Check because Cheney referenced it in the past, which gives it some creds with the Pubbies!

6. It is bullshit. In addition, Chuck Hagel, a pretty right wing republican
that was on the trip with Obama, said it was bullshit

No offense, but do your friends believe everything that they receive in their email, because if they do, I know a dictator from an African country who needs to temporarily store some money in their bank account

7. Quick cure for those
Go to Snopes copy the page, the Army denials it happened et. , put it on this same email at the top of the page and send it to everyone that was on the address list of the email that was sent to you. Just change the title of the email to ... "THE TRUTH ABOUT OBAMA THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO READ"

12. Saw almost the exact same letter, but with a different location for "ignoring the soldiers" and a
different name as the signer. But that "If this is blunt" closing bit was pretty much word for word.

13. I put up a thread about this yesterday. It has led to blocking e-mails
from my SIL who continues to participate in sending this kind of garbage around, despite
having been advised repeatedly how to check Snopes or other places before forwarding.

The larger issue that I find disturbing (and the reason I've come to tell my brother I want nothing further to do with his wife) is the lack of respect for the political process and the understanding
that democracy depends upon information. If half-truths, lies, and distortions are sent around as propaganda, what chance is there for an informed electorate?

Maybe Congress doesn't have the collective will to make Bush/Cheney suffer the consequences
for their lies, but I can, in my own little corner of the world, go to bat for maintaining integrity
and refusing to participate in the spread of lies.

14. Why doesn't anyone ever start patently false smear emails about McCain?
I haven't seen a single one on McCain but I've had five to ten smear emails on Obama, over the last several months. x(
