I was lucky enough to see him at some post 2004 speeches and events. He is very witty, but there was also an intense seriousness and sincerity about him. An interesting combination. I loved the book tour events where Teresa was there. He was funnier and more ebullient when she was there. Had Ohio gone differently, I think the country would have come to like him very much - with his combination of brilliance, decency and these very quick witty jabs.

Not to say he didn't make mistakes, but some Dems were too busy either siding with Bush, complaining rather than getting his message out.

The big difference is that Obama is getting coverage (though it's still negative :grr:), and much more defense than what Gore and Kerry got.
