Kennedy Will Skip Convention

Kennedy Will Skip Convention

According to the AP, Sen. Ted Kennedy taped a five minute video presentation for the Democratic National Convention, suggesting he will not make an appearance as he continues treatment for a brain tumor.

1. Don't be too upset, here's why.

It really doesn't have anything to do with his cancer prognosis. Chemotherapy agents wipe out the immune system, which leaves a person susceptible to serious and sometimes rare infectious diseases. It's best for him to stay home in a controlled environment where he's safer, than at the convention among thousands of people who could make him ill (pneumonia, etc).

Right now Senator Kennedy has to take care of himself so he can get well and return to the Senate, which I believe he will. :hi:

12. Thanks for that...
After the initial "Awwwwwwww..." that comes from that kind of news, your explanation is helpful and pretty obvious. Thanks for the reminder.

I do hope that Senator Kennedy will get better and heal and keep being the lion of the senate.

If love and respect could heal - he'da been 100% already.

8. What he better do is: whatever is good for his health and his family.
If he can't make it to the inauguration he can watch it on TV :)

5. No worry, no cry.
Unka Ted gonna be dere in de town of Washington on de day, yo.

"On the question of racial discrimination, the Addis Ababa Conference taught, to those who will learn, this further lesson: That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will; Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace."

-- Haile Selassie's address to the United Nations, 1963

10. But the convention will not skip him. Note that Cheney won't be at the RNC in ANY form,
and as for GWB--I hope he's the keynote speaker...

13. Perfectly understandable given the circumstances
May you be around for a long time to help President Obama get his agenda through the Senate, Ted!
