Don't attack Schweitzer, pollster tells GOP
By CHARLES S. JOHNSON Missoulian State Bureau

HELENA - A pollster advised the state Republican Party this summer to not attack Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer because of his popularity, but to offer positive policy alternatives.

“Schweitzer has been effective at creating a majority centrist coalition, particularly with women and independents, and this is being driven by improving the state's economy,” the Winston Group said in a June 19 memo to the Montana Republican Party.

It added: “Given the environment and the positive view of Schweitzer, the best strategy is to not attack Schweitzer, but on focusing on policy outcomes you want to offer and making positive contrasts with Democrats.”

“We know Brian Schweitzer's got a strong base of operations and his approval numbers look good right now,” Iverson said. “I don't want my legislative candidates running against Brian Schweitzer.”

3. Obama/Schweitzer would be a powerful ticket. It represents hope, change, and authenticity.
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 07:12 AM by Skwmom
Obama is being hammered 24/7 by the RNC/Media and others. Schweitzer will help to positively define Obama. If they aren't seriously vetting this man they are idiots.

Schweitzer would deliver OH, PA, WV, and VA.

6. I can't think of one person that would be better than Schweitzer.
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 07:21 AM by Skwmom
Is there ANYONE on that vetting committee that lives outside the Washington bubble?

People in this nation DESPERATELY want to believe but the media, the RNC, and those focused on 2012 are constantly trying to sew seeds of doubt. An Obama/Schweitzer ticket would be so powerful because it would appeal to conservatives, moderates, and liberals. It would be a ticket that could rally the American Public to change this country.

14. Obama needs to supercharge the ticket if he's to overcome the corporate media/RNC/2012 group attacks
Edited on Tue Aug-05-08 08:23 AM by Skwmom
Can you imagine Obama telling the audience that Schweitzer said Jag was part of the deal, you can't part a man and his dog.

20. I don't think the GOP

will be asking the 'is he one of us?' question regarding Schweitzer! No one could look more like middle America.

Won't the photo ops look great? The Schweitzers, the Obamas and Jag. Little Jag puppy for Malia and Sasha?

11. I've been interested in him since I heard him interviewed on Al Franken's show
back in 06. Quite a guy, particularly on the environment. He certainly fits the "change" theme but we'll hear about the "not qualified" stuff 24/7 from the pubs hot air machine...

17. He would be my pick
Can speak Arabic (gains him TONS of respect in the region)
Isn't a Senator (doesn't reduce our Dem numbers in the Senate, nor did he vote for most of the stupid crap the Senate has passed lately)
Has Executive experience as Gov.
Is popular in MT
Is very intelligent (goes well with Obama)
The West really likes him (helps in NM, CO, and MT)
Will help with PA, OH as well

12. Schweitzer just impresses the hell out of me.
You Montana folks are damned lucky to have such a terrific governor.

Jon Tester ain't bad as a Senator, either.

Keep up the good work!

16. Both Schweitzer and Tester were Obama supporters from the beginning.
Sounds like they exercise good judgment. Choosing Schweitzer doesn't negate Obama's message like many of the other candidates would have...

15. Schweitzer Could Deliver the West
The Democratic 'Insiders' need to stop worrying about the MidWest and the South and concentrate on the Western half of the country. Erase the stain that the so-called Montana-resident Dick Cheney spread and give soon-to-be President Obama the edge in the West.

are fed up with politicians. A Schweitzer pick would positively define Obama and would expose the McCain is a Maverick meme as the lie it is.

What do you to do when the old system has crashed and burned? You reformat and install a new OS. Obama - Schweitzer. It's what America needs to recover.
