Are the Olympics really that interesting anymore?
With everything on tv these days it seems like the last couple of Olympics weren't all the popular, maybe it was just me though. Back in the day when there were only three channels it was the most interesting thing on television. I really don't know that it would trump Obama announcing his VP this week to be honest.

1. I've been wondering why they're putting so much emphasis on the Olympics
I can understand that MSNBC wants the ratings but everyone is saying the same thing.

Every year there is a Presidential election there is the Olympics. The Olympics, Presidential election and leap year always happen in the same year.

6. Yeah, but at least we can hold onto the hope that ...
the Olympics aren't fixed. I mean -- one out of three may be the best we can do.

2. More so than ever: Tibet, democracy protesters, smog, earthquakes & shoddy building of schools.
The list goes on. These are the most-interesting Olympics ever.

3. I used to like them years ago
The US boycott of the 1980 Summer Games, followed by the Soviet boycott of the 1984 Summer Games, kind of dampened my enthusiasm. When the IOC allowed for openly professional athletes in the 1988 Summer Games, that spelled the end of my interest in the Games. Since 1992, it ceased to be about sport at all, and became all about making oodles and oodles of money.

Why bother with the Olympics any more? I can get my overfill of crass consumerism just by walking down the street nowadays.

4. You bet!
In the soup like air in Beijing the 110 yard wheeze will be the highlight of the Olympics, right next to the Defibrillator Decathlon.
