For a few weeks our (few) media reps have been bashing McCain's "more drilling" meme
as irresponsible and shortsighted. Now what do they do, since Obama is embracing it?

1. Relax. Obama was clear
Expanding off shore drilling is something he is willing to give in on a littel bit in exchange for other provisions. This is called compromise, politics, horse trading. At some point, we have to get voters educated to the workings of an effective political process again. Obama's speech today provides an excellent basis for that.

3. Yeah, well, Big Media is calling it a flip-flop, and the TV Dems
won't have much luck fighting that off.

2. The voters are too stupid to understand it.
Sorry to say, but it's true. With gas prices so high, voters are desperate and will believe anything.

8. I disagree ... they are merely swamped by disinformation
Most voters understand something is horribly wrong (which is why over 80% believe we are headed down the wrong track. Let us not hold them in contempt when so much money, time, and effort has been spent to hoodwink them. Let us rather meet them as our brothers and sisters to denounce the lies and uphold the truth as best we ourselves know it.

Truth, knowledge, and reason can prevail, but not if we are too timid to wield them.

4. Is he really "embracing it" or are we "spinning" a tinch?
I expect better here at DU than those who would mirror the Corporate Media.

Barack Obama said Friday that he would be willing to compromise on his position against offshore oil drilling if it were part of a more overarching strategy to lower energy costs.

“My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama told The Palm Beach Post early into a two-day swing through Florida.

"If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage - I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done," Obama said.

6. I'd say that was spun a smidgen wouldn't you? I guess we'd
better get out our hard hats since the damned sky is falling AGAIN. Sheesh. You'd think it'd stay up there for at least a few hours.

5. Obama still opposes off shore drilling.

He described it as something he doesn't like or want. The political process involves compromise. Keep arguing against it and maybe its a compromise Obama won't feel pressured to make.
