Obama's gonna get nailed for this "flip flop". Re: Strat Oil Reserve
I dont know if I fully understand the "swap", but it will be played by McSame and the media as if he has flipped on his desire to utilize the strategic petroleum reserves.

I must also go on record as not being on board with his "drill here, drill now" positions. It "appears" that he is siding with repiggies by saying that he is "open to compromise"

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: While unveiling his "New Energy for America" plan today, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will propose swapping light oil for heavy oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, a stance the Illinois senator has not previously held.

"What he will be calling for in speech today is a swap out of light crude for heavy crude," Obama's Energy Policy Director Heather Zichal told reporters on a conference call today, "The heavy crude will be replaced in the reserve at a later date so that we can get oil into the market."

Obama has long sided with President Bush that the strategic reserve should not be touched at this point – but like Republican rival Sen. John McCain has said because of current strain, more oil should not be added to the reserve.

Last month Obama affirmed his original position to reporters, "I do not believe that we should use this strategic oil reserves at this point," Obama said on July 7th in St Louis, "I have said and in fact supported a congressional resolution that said that we should suspend putting more oil into the strategic oil reserve. But the strategic oil reserve I think has to be reserved for a genuine emergency."

The campaign says Obama's new proposal was recently decided on, after looking over similar swaps in the past which demonstrated the ability to bring costs down.

4. but McSame negatives are never mentioned on Obama's
he needs to work hard now to avoid the appearance of anything that can be used against him. I know he has great handlers, but maybe they've had a rough week and are tired.

3. McSplode has been trying to suggest that Obama doesn't want to do anything about oil prices.
Anything Obama suggests that's something new and might help with oil prices is a great idea. Working with the strategic reserves is one way of working with oil that's already in the country, already available. Light crude is the easiest to run through refineries and we can get it to the pumps the most easily that way.

7. when he changes his mind it gives the appearance that McSame is guiding the debate
First McSame says that Obama needs to go to Iraq, so he goes. He wins popular support, but it still looks like McSame is framing the debate.

We need to go on OFFENSIVE

6. This isn't a biggie. If his energy team thinks it found a good way to
bring costs down, then he should go with it. If McCrazy wants to scream flip-flop, then that's an Obama response ad waiting to happen.

8. As the Republican California governor points out,
what's the big deal with flip flops anyway? If you aren't open to changing your position if it seems like the right thing to do, you shouldn't be the leader of anything. Obama wants to get something done and to do that you need to give a few things to the other side.

12. I think he handled it well.. this is a proposal by Democrats and Republicans
in the Senate. Its a compromise, so Obama will support the compromise that they come up with to end the gridlock. Lord knows one thing Americans hate is Washington gridlock, so I don't think this will hurt him.. The immediate plans of relief are much better than holding out for the "drilling" and the strategic oil reserves.. In reality, they don't even have to send the reserves anywhere. There is more supply than demand.. the "opening" will flood the market and force the prices at the pump to decrease, similar to what happened when Clinton did this at the end of his term.

13. McCain has no credibility on energy issues
since he's "in the pocket" of the hated oil companies, any criticism from him of Obama's policies will be suspect.

Killer line of attack from Obama.
