MY VP prediction...
Dan Quayle.

No, in 1988 I actually predicted that Poppy Bush would select Dan Quayle as his running mate.

I think i may be the only person in America who saw that train wreck a-comin' down the tracks!

1. If Quayle was a train wreck, what was Lieberman for Gore?
His 'debates' with Cheney ("I agree with what he says") are one of my absolute worst political memories. Far worse than "That depends upon what 'is' means."

3. Actually Lieberman's selection AT THE TIME was widely praised and pretty popular
he was a first, Jew nominated. Gore actually moved up in the polls after the selection. In other words, it worked at the time. Some people even give Lieberman credit for Florida being as close as it was. Of course Lieberman has shown his true colors in the years since. Quayle's selection was derided from the beginning.

9. Tend to agree
Lieberman brought a squeaky-clean image to the ticket, something Gore's camp thought essential after the Clinton impeachment travails.

I've also read somewhere that Gore's vice presidential staff actually conducted a very low key VP vetting process during the impeachment process in case Clinton resigned. That's why Gore's short list included names like Lieberman, Kerry, and Graham, all respected and scandal-free guys who would have easily won enate confirmation.

7. Beats the hell out of me!
I'm hoping for Biden!

I've had a chance to talk with Evan Bayh at some length in the past, and I actually like him.

8. Well, BUSH won
Not sure you can give much of the credit to Quayle.

I think Bush wanted a younger, optimistic conservative with good hair. Basically he wanted Jack Kemp, but he couldn't stand Kemp himself, so he went with a minor league version.

10. No - he wanted a pretty boy. He needed women to vote for him. I remember my
disgust like it was yesterday. He chose Quayle to get the votes of females, whom he thought of as brainless.
Geez
I hate the old Geezer
for this very thing to this day

11. My point was it isn't such a train wreck if they win.
