19. No, that's been th faulty thinking of the DLC for decades now
Will Rogers said it best; "given a Republican and a Democrat who acts like one, the people will choose the Republican every time". The GOP plays to it's base and embraces it's ideology fully, while the Dems play to the GOP base and reject traditional Democratic platforms as if we're embarrassed by our own beliefs. It's hard to draw people to a party that continually behaves like it's ashamed to be what it is! Every person in history worthy of admiration was a liberal, so there's no need to run from that legacy!

24. I tend to see it like Will Rogers - but I'm not sure the campaign does...
Edited on Sun Aug-03-08 06:55 PM by polichick
I should've made that distinction ~ imo Obama has already caved on too many things he shouldn't have.

Thanks for the quote ~ hadn't seen that in a while!

33. I've always seen that quote attributed to Harry Truman
did Will Rogers say it first? (Just curious, it doesn't really matter who said it first - it's true.)

Is it that bad already?

Can Hillary or Biden or whomever still be drafted?

(I think he/ we will be served by ANY strong vp.)

...might believe that's the way to go ~ but I'm hoping he'll surprise everyone with a bold move that really pleases Democrats.

He hasn't been out of the Military long enough.

I hope that he will be the VP choice.

16. I'm not so sure about boring and safe.
This may be the biggest thing Obama can do in the next month, and it needs to be rock solid, but that doesn't automatically mean boring and safe. In fact, exciting or surprising is actually good right now, as long as it's not stupid.

It probably won't be a Senator; needs to be a governor or a general or maybe even a ceo.

But mostly it needs to reinforce change. No DC insiders, nobody with a long Congressional record. Clark fits the bill on a number of levels, and goes a long way to plug the only perceived hole (Iraq and national security).
