Smear campaigning is building a fire that cannot be controlled.
When the "celebrity" ad discussion turned to race, the McWither campaign got scared, defensive and stumbled. The were pushing the, what they considered, "humorous" ad and proud of it. They were enjoying the attention, even though the attention was still about Obama.

When the discussion turned to who played the race card, they thought that was where they wanted to be, but quickly learned that was a discussion they would lose.

So, they released the "messianic" ad. Still, only about Obama. And, still, based on fear of Obama. As has been mentioned in other threads, still with subtle tones of racism and xenophobia.

They are going to end up in another very uncomfortable discussion. Smear campaigning is like building a big fire. If it starts to get too big, you can throw piles of wood on it. It will knock the flames down, temporarily, but come back stronger. It cannot be maintained, and will burn out of control. Smear campaigning cannot be maintained or controlled, and using it this early is going to burn McWither, badly.

McWither's only campaign platform is "I hate Obama, you should too." He is not bringing in new voters and his numbers don't improve. As much as they want to make this a referendum on Obama. It is a referendum on chimpy, the gop and the Republican War Recession, championed by McWither.
