I'm going to ask everyone to take a deep breath and...
please calm down.

There are three long months between now and election day, and the campaign is NOT asleep at the wheel.

I'm sensing panic, calls for harsher responses and stronger attacks, and pointed criticism of the campaign and the candidate.

Look, I'm all for hearing about ways we can assist in countering false attacks, words of advice for the campaign, and even questions about what actions are being taken.

Please, be patient, be thoughtful, take action, volunteer where you can and remember that, in the primaries, this skinny black guy did the impossible and won.

Let's keep our eye on the prize and take a cue from the candidate, calm, cool, and collected.

Ok, thanks, bye.

With all the pearl-clutching going on here today, you'd think Obama was 20 points down or something.

These people gotta stop obsessing over daily tracking polls and relax.

The heckling one is powerful. And I thought the young man's question was thoughtful and intelligent.

Obama's suggestion that if he didn't like how Obama was handling things, that he one day run for office himself was a good one.

7. Agreed. The Obama campaign didn't just fall off the turnip truck, so to speak
They didn't get here - couldn't have gotten here - by being careless or incompetent. I don't think they're about to start now.

Obama told his staff after the primaries that they would be attacked like never before. I don't think anything coming from the McCain team or the MSM is coming as a surprise to him or his campaign.

I sometimes just get away from the stuff for a while, and let them get it all out of their system.

We have a LONG bumpy road ahead, and we all must do as you say---cool it!

Also, get out and start knocking on doors. It is hot here is SW MO, and I am not a spring chicken-- but I have been out doing just that, and am going to continue. Last Sunday we found and registered some voters. Every single vote added by us will add up.

So GET ANGRY if you want, but GET BUSY and help Barack win!

I rather enjoy the spectator sport of watching how the opponent goes down a path while our guy just stays happy.

As long as we win, and we must win, I'm really pleased with how it's going.

12. Political Jujutsu
Jujutsu, literally meaning the "art of softness", or "way of yielding" is a martial art consisting of grappling and striking techniques.

Jujutsu evolved among the samurai of feudal Japan as a method for dispatching an armed and armored opponent in situations where the use of weapons was impractical or forbidden.

Due to the difficulty of dispatching an armored opponent with striking techniques, the most efficient methods for neutralizing an enemy took the form of pins, joint locks, and throws.

These techniques were developed around the principle of using an attacker's energy against him, rather than directly opposing it, and came to be known as jujutsu.

19. After so many losses,
Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 03:35 PM by tedoll78
it seems like it's happening again. Our party has nominated another wimp who's unwilling to fight.

The American voter averages a fifth grade education level. McCain's campaign realizes this, and is fighting accordingly. Being high-minded, clever, and idealistic - as Obama's campaign is doing - is quite noble and all.. but letting the country go down the shitter because of one's moral philosophy (where campaigning is concerned) is NOT noble.

The future of the world is at stake, and we're giving it away just so that we can claim we're better than them. And I'm fucking sick and tired of that.

(just how I feel.. very frustrated..)

22. I don't buy comparisons between primaries and general elections.
Democratic primary voters are sooooo much more informed, smarter, more savvy, etc.

Swing voters, in my mind, are just as - (err.. how do I put this politely?) - "mentally challenged" as Republican voters.

I don't trust general election voters to react to negative/positive campaigning in the same manner as your average Democratic primary voter.

20. I actually think he's been doing better than he was in June
To me, it feels like he's getting back on track, and, most importantly, he feels more like the candidate I voted for in the primaries. In June, I was wondering whether I really knew who he was, the FISA vote, etc., but, from Europe on, I'm starting to recognize him again. I think he handled those St. Petersburg hecklers really well.

Plus John Kerry has been extra sharp as his surrogate this week.

51. there are reasons to panic

- the elections were stolen in 2000 and 2004

- the media is against Obama because they have been bought by the right
- repugs are experts at launching nasty campaigns while Democrats seem to love getting beat up without responding
- our electoral strengths in Congress are negated by a wimpy or corrupted Pelosi and a wimpy Reid
- bush has gotten away with murder and he's still not being impeached
- all the villians in bush regime will be pardoned by bush before he leaves office. in the meantime they can conduct criminal acts with impunity
- the repugs will steal or suppress millions of votes
- many people in the public are too stupid too realize that they are willing slaves to the right wing elite
- big money is supporting repugs regardless of the damage to the Constitution
- institutions that have previously been considered to be foundations, like Gallup, 60 Minutes, CBS News, are all corrupted and lie for the wacky, evil right wing

Yes, there are reasons to panic.

I think folks, me included, begin to think that everyone across America is watching the same news coverage, reading the same blogs and internet news sites, and getting the messages we're seeing.

They watch too much TV and believe everything they hear, even as they say they can't believe what they just heard.

And then panic ensues.

Tunnel vision....
