The Obama Template: This is how he wins on campaign 'non-troversies.'
I posted this in another thread, but azmouse suggested I should put it up on its own.

Every time the GOP gins up another 'issue' against Obama, he and his team sticks to a plan that almost always guarantees that he'll come out of it as an even stronger candidate. I call it 'The Obama Template,' and here's how it goes:

Think of the Wright flap - that's the template.

1. The Repukes go nuts, thinking they've got an issue to kick his ass with.
2. Obama camp maintains radio silence, letting the pundits yap and the Repukes yammer until they put themselves in a position they can't backtrack from.
3. He lets the public get familiar enough with the issue so that there will be no misunderstanding him or wondering what he's talking about when he does respond.
4. At the right time, he drops the hammer. And wins the argument.

Wright-Gate. Bitter-Gate. And now, Britney-Gate. He's won those arguments by not responding right away.

We're used to responses occurring in blog-speed. But while O is very aware of what happens in the blogosphere, he plays his responses in the time frame of dead-tree media and public perception.

We can't be impatient waiting for him to respond. To paraphrase a wise old man that I knew when I was a kid - 'He may not respond when you want him to, but he'll always respond just in time.'

They know what they're doing. Every time one of these non-troversies pops up, I see people freak out because he doesn't fly off the handle like we would. that's why he's gonna be president and we're not. :D

Next time McThuselah or one of the RW shrieking heads thinks they've got Obama on something, pay attention. Unless it involves being caught in a men's room with Larry Craig or murdering puppies on live TV, Team O will go to The Template. So far, it's worked every time.

2. I'm hoping people will read this and realize Obama has things under control.
Obama has gotten this far by doing what works for him.
Every week will have its ups and downs but Obama WILL win in Nov.
I have no doubt about it!

Thanks for the mention. :)

his use of humor to disarm the mcsame talking points is perfect, imo. obama's response to the brittney/paris ad was excellent. mcsame's already getting testy. obama making light of these attacks may push him right over the edge. i doubt mcsame likes to be patronized.

A guy like McCain - who got into the USAF as a legacy, finished nearly at the bottom of his class, crashed a bunch of planes, womanized his way through his life, replaced his accident-victim wife with a rich trophy - has a lot of issues to compensate for.

He needs and demands to be taken seriously, and he's surrounded himself with Rove proteges who no doubt want to establish themselves as the next generation of political badasses. They demand to be taken seriously as they attempt to make their bones in DC political circles.

Mockery most likely sends McCain (and by extension, his political flacks) into a rage. And Obama knows this.

I could imagine chairs flying in McCain HQ, as his minions tried to get O to rise to their amateurish bait and grew increasingly frustrated by Obama's refusal to do so.

And on top of it all, Obama turns them into a joke. That's probably why Ric Davis tossed out the 'race card' charge this morning.

There's a lot of resentment and bitterness in McCain's campaign. That's why he won't win and Obama will - voters want their president to inspire them. You can't run a presidential campaign on an attitude of complete negativity. Even Bush and Rove knew that, because however nasty Bush's campaigns were he always projected at least the appearance of positivity.

I guess Rove's little monkeys missed that page in the playbook.
