New Polls from Idaho and California
Idaho: McCain over Obama, 53-37 (not bad when you consider that Bush won Idaho over Kerry 69-30).
(Research 2000, 500 LV, +/- 4.5%)

California: Obama over McCain 50/35 (previous poll was 54-37 in Obama's favor, so little change)
(PPIC, 1401 LV, +/- 2.6%)

8. I am not sure but I think Idaho has a lot of Mormons
who are reliably Republican, especially since Romney is such a high profile Republican. There has never been a Morman president or vice-predident, so Mormons will turn out in huge numbers if Romney is the vp candidate for the Repubs. I think Nevada and Colorado also have many Mormons and they could tip those states to McCain if Romney is on the ticket.

20. mormons
I'm from idaho and have heard (though don't know if it's true) that idaho has more mormons per capita than Utah does.

13. It's the second most conservative state in the union.
After Utah.

It has a high population of Mormons, which tend to vote conservative - right up there with Utah. It's conservatism could be described as "arch" with a streak of Libertarianism.

3. I don't think anyone is expecting ID to turn blue
And I think we can safely assume that UT and WY will stay red as well.

11. I think it's great that McLame is having to defend in places like ID
Make him spend his $$ defending formerly-guaranteed red states.

6. Nobody is expecting Idaho to turn Blue, but Obama is still running better than any dem in a general

9. Well, considering that Obama is running better than any democrat for president in ID at this point
in many years (10% undecided) and that in the House race the GOP candidate leads the Dem by only 42-32, then I think the 50-state strategy is going well in Idaho. You know we aren't going to win all the fifty states but we are competitive in many of them that we haven't been in years.

12. Even if we don't win there
We'll make the GOP spend their $$ defending the red states.

15. You want a serious answer? I live there and I'll tell you how:
Thanks to Dean, the struggling Idaho Democratic Party had enough money to help win several key races in 2006, and it had the money to do grassroots community building. That had never happened before.

Dean kept true to his word, and the national party invested money into the state party, and thanks to that investment we elected a couple more democrats to the legislature because they had enough money to run an actual campaign.

That's how you turn Idaho blue. We keep getting a few more, and keep supporting the state party so that it can continue to do grassroots organizing.

If it wasn't for Dean's strategy - we wouldn't have had any of the successes we have recently had.
