The Swamp

by Rick Pearson

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a potential Republican vice presidential nominee, urged a conference of conservative state lawmakers today to look toward a Sam's Club approach to government by providing value at a low cost.

Speaking at a luncheon to mark the opening of the American Legislative Exchange Council, which was sponsored by Sam's Club parent, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Pawlenty did not address speculation about being possibly tapped as a running mate to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

But in a 25-minute address at a downtown Chicago hotel, Pawlenty cited the need to fix the nation's education and health care system and to accelerate domestic energy production to meet the challenges of a global economy.

"I want to get the best value for my money," he said of visiting a Sam's Club. "That's missing in government in dramatic, dramatic measurement."

1. So his model for government...
...is the provision of low-quality goods and services that have been produced overseas by slaves, at a price that, while seemingly low, is actually grossly inflated above production cost?

I can't wait.

2. Maybe he can figure out a way to get bridges made in China and imported here

that would save some money.

And, I wonder where Mr. No New Taxes is planning to get the money to pay math and science teachers more - not to mention making sure they have the tools needed to teach effectively.

He is such a tool.

Minnesota used to be a great state. You'll never see Timmy on a national magazine like this

3. perfect....treat your employees like dirt. overwork/underpay them.
bring in your products from countries that pay slave wages

funniest thing is, Obama, or somebody should turn this around and tell the country that we should be running things like Costco, a blue company that treats its employees like human beings, pays them decently, and actually stand up for them when they have a problem with their Costco-supplied health care

4. Some things are not about money you idiot.
Health care is not about money, education is not about money, for christ sake retirement is not about money. This is what rubs my rhubarb about f&^kin republicons. People should not be making a profit on illness or education. Want to reduce cost? Take the profit motive away from these things. Cut out the friggen middle man.

I'm sorry to say that our tax money, what we as a nation should be striving for, is for the secure future of the next generation and that involves sacrifice. Sacrifice is something Feelenty doesnt understand.

5. Aren't they doing this already?
I thought most states were outsourcing parts of vital government programs overseas (i.e. call centers for those who receive certain states' government benefits are in India, etc).

They've already got the whole doing it on the cheap thing down.

Carol Molnau, Lt. Governor, former transporation commissioner, AND former arm wrestling champ will be governor.

Chaska area farm wife is arm wrestling champion

Most sports personalities are subject to getting in shape for a season or stashing away funds for equipment or uniforms. Not Carol Molnau. She just keeps on working as a dedicated farm wife.

This weekend Carol, of rural Chaska became the national women’s arm wrestling champion.

To do it she arm wrestled six competitors Saturday in Memphis, Tenn., among 60 from across the country who competed in the meet sponsored by the World Professional Arm Wrestling Association.

Though, I look forward to the more likey scenario - McCain goes down in flames and Timmy fades into obscurity after his term ends.
