2. Actually there's nothing "new" about it. "Arrogant" has always been
codeword for blacks who have achieved and done well in their lives. "Presumptuous" is a rather peculiar affective to use against Obama. He is the "presumptive" Democratic nominee but they're acting as if he doesn't have to run for office. It's maddening!!

3. Other.
These are not really "new" .... the same words were used to describe Martin Luther King, Jr., after he delivered his April 4, 1967 speech "A Time to break Silence (aka 'Beyond Vietnam')."

4. I voted yes. But, I wonder if the press would have done the same to John Kerry
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 08:06 AM by mucifer
if he was such a great speaker. They didn't treat him fairly either.
And Gore "inventing the internets" and all of those lies.

Makes me wonder.

12. It's not the same. "Elitist" and "Cerebral" were used to malign
Gore and Kerry. "Arrogant," "Presumptuous," etc. are racially-coded adjectives specifically targeted at Obama because he's a successful black man who has the audacity to run for president.

Similar can be stated of Hillary. The sexism was rampant. She's "arrogant" and "bitchy" because she's smart and confident. These are terms used against women who break the class ceiling.

6. Thank God I'm not the only one who sees that! They're merely "putting him in his place"
Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 08:08 AM by Rowdyboy
White politicians like John McCain are confident. A black politician, like Obama is different. Since they can't call Obama an "uppity n****r (at least not while they're on the air), assholes like Scarborough and Matthews call him "arrogant" or "presumptious". Same effect.

7. Yes, and I'm fed up with media characterizing Dems unfairly
From the media we were told that Gore was a goofy teller of tall tales (and his policies were same as Bush's anyway) and Kerry was an effete flip flopper who just pretended to be a war hero.

8. Well, let me know when McCain gets
called arrogant or presumptuous, and then I will change my mind. Because, you know, he's so humble and self-effacing. So was Hillary. And Mitt Romney. And John Edwards. And John Kerry. Amd Chimpster. And Dick Cheney. All just the most humble, modest wallflowers you'd ever hope to meet. No coincidence that they're white, of course...

13. Not sure I can vote on this one
Unfortunately I didn't see an option for "No they aren't, and insinuating that anyone that calls Obama either word is a racist is pretty fucking pathetic."

15. Perhaps you need an option for
"Has head firmly buried in the sand" or "Willfully blind"

Regards
