I can not explain to you how excited I would be over Kaine as VP
Seriously, as a former Virginian who had the honor to work on this mans Lt. Gov campaign, and vote for him in 2005, I could not be more excited to work and vote for him again as VP. We Democrats could do much MUCH worse.

Welcome VA into the flock of blue states in November.

8. Why do you think that?
As I asked someone else making a similar forecast -- do you have inside info, or a gut feeling?

When Obama can announce to make the most of it as the Olympics are coming soon and then there's the weekend before that. Who knows for sure..we shall see.

18. Yep - that's where I heard it, too, PLUS
I just watched the KO video L Coyte posted and Fineman said he wouldn't be surprised if Obama announced before the Olympics.

Yep - we shall see, and I'm ready when Obama is!

3. Not all Virginians are thrilled wtih Kaine
http://www.openleft.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=7218

So it's worth noting that the blog refers to itself as RK at this point, and has firmly turned against Kaine.

Three years into the Kaine Administration, Virginia Progressives stand aghast at what it has become. From his repeal of the estate tax to his abandoned plan for universal Pre-K, to his opposition to embryonic stem cells, from his failed transportation plans to cozy relationship to Dominion Power and his reprehensible support of the Wise Coal Plant, the Kaine administration has fulfilled our every early fear and never failed to disappoint progressive Virginia.

15. I am already fucking sick of people posting crap they find on the internet about Kaine.
Just because SOME people have an ax to grind doesn't mean their view of reality is spot on.

Think for your self.

Not all Vermont environmentalists were happy with Howard Dean as Governor.

4. My concern about whomever Obama chooses,
is that WE, the Dems would probably be really happy, but it's not our votes we're needing to attract. This is going to be an ugly election (again) and we need to win by such an overwhelming majority that stealing the election would be impossible.

What we need more than anything, is a person who will attract voters who might not be all that interested in Obama otherwise.

There are pros and cons for all the people being mentioned, but I think the bottom line is - will s/he help get people out to the polls in November to vote for Obama.

Edited on Wed Jul-30-08 12:39 AM by onenote
And he gets favorable marks from over 1/3 of repubs

But more to the real point of the benefit of Kaine -- he could very well help pull Obama over the top in Virginia, and winning Virginia could be key to winning the presidency. He certainly doesn't cause Obama to lose any states.

12. It goes beyond bridging a gap, to actually attracting interest that
translates into votes. If Kaine can do that, that would be wonderful. (As I typed that I thought -- can ANYBODY really do that? )

29. tell me why someone who has stated he'd veto a bill banning abortion
even if Roe v Wade was overturned qualifies as "anti abortion". Surely you have ability to distinguish between someone who is personally opposed to abortion but supports a woman's right to choose?

If we flip VA, it's over for McCain. VA is probably the state most likely to flip, and we can't miss this opportunity. I say pick Kaine or Webb.
