1. I appreciate that one much better than the stupid excuses...
... like his middle name, he's a Muslim, he doesn't support the troops, he doesn't wear a flag pin, he doesn't salute the flag, etc.

2. O...kay?
Well I'm not voting for McCain--and it's not because he's a decrepit, doddering old fool who doesn't know where he is 70% of the time. It's because I vote Democratic.

4. The two least convincing sentences in the English language:
"I'm not an alcoholic" and "I'm not a racist." If they really weren't going to vote for Obama just because he's a Democrat, they probably wouldn't even feel the need to mention his skin color.

5. But this will truly be the case for most republicans
and I would not want to cast that judgment on them all. I know I don't like being labeled as a hateful liberal when I am not either, just doesn't seem right to me.

7. Not voting for Obama does not automatically make you a racist
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 04:52 PM by musicblind
I know people who have voted republican all their life and will most likely vote republican this time around. Not because they are racist, but because republicans best represent their values.

If a black person were to run for president on the republican ticket I still wouldn't vote for him because he would be a REPUBLICAN and I'm a democrat.

I am excited to vote for Barack Obama because he is an oustanding candidate, not because he is black.

18. I disagree.
Barack Obama is clearly a superior candidate to John McCain.

Anybody voting McCain is a racist.

27. I felt that Kerry was a superior candidate than Bush and nearly half of America
voted for Bush. Not everyone shares our opinions. It does not make the racist. How ignorant of you to think that it does.

And Republicans were racist in 2004 too. The whole platform's racist.

They would vote for a black Republican in my view. They absolutely LOVE those guys...Keyes, JC Watts...black Republicans are a righty's Vaudeville.

I can just hear my wingnut family now if a Black neoCon got their nomination..."Now, he's a good black man".

Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 05:20 PM by elkston
I would love to challenge some white Republicans to see if they would actually vote for a black guy *in their party* as President. Not representative, senator, etc... PRESIDENT.

We'll see how serious they are when they mention "I'd vote for Alan Keyes" or "I'd vote for Colin Powell".

It was the same thing with Obama. Everyone had positive things to say about him and the barriers that could be broken when he wasn't in the lead. But when it was possible he could actually win the thing, that's when the guns came out and also when the media started to turn.

14. Ask them what "Republican" means to them...
Limited government? No more with illegal spying, torture, unlimited detention...
Limited spending? Bush/GOP ran up USA debt up to $6 trillion...
Party of Fiscal Responsibility? See no. 2
Party of No Foreign Entanglements? Yeah, that's a laugh...
Party of Personal Responsibility? Well, where do we start with that? (Ted Stevens...)
Party of Family Values? Oh, right...just like Mark Vitter and John McCain, for starters...
Party of Man/Woman = Marriage? Right, just ask Larry Craig and Mark Foley, for starters...
Party of National Security? Right, uh-huh, we were attacked on Bush's watch. He did nothing when told we were under attack...
Party of Law and Order? Now, what happened with the Justice Department again?

I'd like to know just what "Republican" means to Republicans any more...

32. better yet, just ask them "why?"
"Why do you vote Republican?" Because...

"And why is that?" Because...

etc. etc. etc.

It will continue until they say "I don't want to talk any more", and you will NEVER get a reasonable answer...

Try it and see! :toast:

16. Actually, a LOT of people have their personalities wrapped up in "being" Republican
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 05:21 PM by depakid
It's a validation of "who they are" and of their world view- and its reinforced on the corporate media and on hate radio every day.

Despite their outwardly appearance, folks like these also tend to be inwardly insecure individuals, who lack the courage to do much if anything in the way of existential examination- even if they have the suspicion or the insight that their worldview's gone wrong.

About the only way folks like this will ever change is if something personal- typically on the level of a tragedy happens to them and theirs- AND they are able to make a direct connection to Republicans and their destructive policies.

1. They are racist.
2. They are stupid.
3. They are lazy.

Then again, people who feel the need to pre-qualify themselves as "not racist" usually are.

Good to see you. :hi:

28. That's probably true, for a lot of Repugs.
Alan Keyes managed to get 30% of the vote in IL. I realize that Obama is black too, but those people didn't have to vote at all. But they did. For the Republican candidate.

I'm not worried about the 29% backwash crowd, though many of them to be sure are virulent racists. I'm worried about all the Dems and Independents who may not be able to get over their latent (or not so latent) bigotry.

If the Supreme Court was elected, they wouldn't vote for Clarence Thomas either.

Not like that would be much of a loss, of course.
