SHOCKER! Center for Media and Public Affairs study: ABC, NBC & CBS tougher on Obama than McCain

In study, evidence of liberal-bias bias

Cable talking heads accuse broadcast networks of liberal bias -- but a think tank finds that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Barack Obama than on John McCain in recent weeks.

By JAMES RAINEY, ON THE MEDIA

July 27, 2008

The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

You read it right: tougher on the Democrat.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative, according to the Washington-based media center.

5. His nut-riding supporters won't believe it...
until they can get a study done by independent, non-partisan schools like Liberty or Bob Jones University.

6. It made it...thanks
VERY unusual for this to get visibility. Now, if it were the other way around, I'd expect to see it 24/7.

4. This isn't surprising, of course, but it's a good reminder of how effective the Republicans
are at spreading the myth of a "liberal media," with the media's giddy cooperation.

7. The RW Bias Is Not An Accident - Motivated By Economics
Here is a long thread with a good discussion of the economics behind RW bias in the MSM. In particular, the Nation has a great article discussion the affect the Presidency will have on the composition of the FCC, and how media companies like Disney (ABC) and News Corp (Fox) might have their acquisition plans hampered by a restrictive FCC.

10. No shit, Think Tank Sherlocks.
CBS cutting a pasting an interview with McBush was the piece de resistance this election punctuated with complete oblivion to his spectacular flip-flops.

11. Actually it makes sense ...
Obama can hold his own with hard questions and people can learn something.

If McCain is thrown hard questions he crumbles and babbles.

So to keep things balanced and fair they give each candidate questions appropriate to their respective levels.

But don't worry. Even with the easy questions McCain crumbles and babbles.

14. You can hardly blame McCain for stealing one of Clinton's tactics...
... one that was rather successful late in the primary: "The media is totally in the tank for Obama."

The Joe Scarboroughs of the world took that now infamous SNL skit and ran with it; they're still running with it today. It's pathetic, and honestly, it has a short shelf-life and makes McCain seem like a whining desperate loser with nothing to offer.

Which basically describes him to a "T." :-)
