...here's what I sent to ombudsman@npr.org (I've also e-mailed CNN this morning about their one-sided coverage of Bob Dole's nasty comments about Kerry's record whilst they're ignoring the testimony of Rood and others who were THERE and who've come forward):
_ _ _ _ _ sent to NPR
Cokie Roberts made a couple of outrageous and hypocritical statements on NPR this morning:
1. that the public already vetted Bu$h's military record when he ran 4 years ago. That it all came out then and that people had made up their minds then.
But it DIDN'T all come out then. I'd like to remind NPR and Roberts that 4 years ago Bush **refused** to release his military records and the press let him get away with it. Most people STILL do not know where Bush was for those 18 months that no one - even when rewards were offered - seems to be able to account for. Bush was never IN Vietnam and in fact, wherever he was SUPPOSED to be during that time - well, he wasn't THERE, either and no one can prove he was.
His record is hardly clear nor is it nearly proven or substianted (no more than the Swift Boat Veteran's for "Truth"'s lies are), so her assertion that 'it's all out there already' doesn't hold water.
2. She also said this morning, regarding the issue of Bush's military record:
"That was 40 years ago. NO ONE cares what happened 40 years ago. People only care about George Bush's record during the last four years, NOT something that happened 40 years ago...."
NOW, George Bush DOESN'T WANT TO TALK about his record for the past four years (ie: the issues), apparently. He'd rather detract attention to something that happened with John Kerry 30 years ago. Why? Well, frankly, George Bush's record of the last 4 years is terrible!
George Bush has chosen, instead, via his Swift Boat surrogates, to **distract the public's attention** to John Kerry's military record 30 or so years ago - rather than having the public's attention focused on George Bush's bad 4-year record on jobs, economy, national security, healthcare, etc. -- which as I've said, is pretty terrible, so he cannot very well campaign on it without totally losing.
Furthermore, I'd like Ms. Roberts to explain why, if what happened with GWB in the military 40 years ago doesn't matter, then WHY does what happened with Kerry in the military 30 years ago matter except as a TOOL to DIVERT ATTENTION from George Bush's horrid record of the past 4 years?
I'm sure you get the picture. I certainly did.
The picture can be summed up very succinctly: HYPOCRISY
Her statements regarding George Bush's military record vs. John Kerry's military record simply do not hold water. Stop the hypocrisy. It is illogical, nonsensical, and transparent.
